Noooo!!!!!

I got home last night, went online to try and download ANGEL. It wasn't out yet. I installed the latest BitTorrent ready to get it. Everything started running super-slow so I restarted. When the PC restarted, I was no longer able to get online (BitTorrent had changed some settings on the PC that stopped it connecting... grr!!). Trying ( Read more... )

What settings had it changed? I'm wondering if it's responsible for the problems we've been having.

DNS settings, in Network Connections. It had set certain DNS things that meant I couldn't browse. Strangely enough, it started with just letting me use the Beta. I wasn't worried at all, since I thought it was funny that we'd talked about that the other day. I figured restarting it would sort it all out and I'd post to you and we could have a giggle about the freaky timing. Didn't exactly go to plan!

I'm actually using Kazaa to get ANGEL now, and I'm getting the small avi file. Ugh!

(How are you getting it by the way? Where do you get your torrents?)

I'm paranoid about re-installing bitTorrent now!

Ooh. Interesting. Chris is going to take a look when he gets back to from the post office to see if he can see if it's changed our DNS settings too.

I'm using BitTorrent to get mine (and so far everything is working fine) at the moment (from Suprnova). 3hr 16min 30sec to go.

I avoid using Kazaa at all these days because of the court cases and also because viruses have started being distributed through Kazaa, apparently. (Not to mention the fact that it usually takes a couple of days to download an episode through Kazaa, whereas BitTorrent usually does it in about half a day or less, sometimes.)

Will let you know if Chris comes up with anything, anyway. (Maybe I shouldn't have upgraded to the latest BitTorrent - the last one never gave us any problems!)

OK. We've looked at our DNS settings and think we've worked out what it would probably be changing. And we've done screendumps of what the settings are now (while the internet is working fine), so that if it goes wrong again, we should be able to change them back.

Having said all that, though, what we can't understand is how the settings would get changed back without us doing anything. Restarting the computer didn't work (as you saw yourself). So we just left it sitting there for a while and at some point it would start working again! I'm wondering if it's something to do with making a donation to the guy who created BitTorrent. Today, when the Torrent started downloading I got shunted to a Donate page, with a pop-up button asking "Have you donated? Yes No" It said you could click No and donate some time in the future. So I did. Maybe I should have clicked Yes!

Anyway, we're going to wait and see if the internet goes kerplooey when the download has finished or not. Will let you know if there's any news of interest!

*snugsmootch*

Well, we're both in the same boat. Though faithx5 said she'd get me a copy....

*sigh* I'm getting satellite cable, and I'm not sure it's gonna carry the WB. Which will suck, unless I can figure out how to work my mother's VCR properly....
