I finally have a 'driving story' now, and my mom seems to think this is hilarious. I have to admit to finding it amusing myself. Also, all brought on by nothing but my own idiocy

"13. Ever get a parking ticket? Nope." Yeah, THAT'll last *weg*
I'm wondering if next time you get stopped they'll check your ID and come back with a question about the neanderthal project. That would be funny!
Oh, 1-900 numbers are toll calls wherein the service-provider collects money on your phone bill rather than bill you directly. TV psychics were fabulous about advertising that last decade, but these days you mostly see those numbers advertised in latenight for phone sex lines in latenight."Lonely? Talk to our hot ladies. They want to talk to you. $3.99 the first minute; $2.99 each additional minute. Must be 18 or older to call. For entertainment purposes only."Stuff like that. So, that question is..."Ever call sleazy numbers?" ...and now you know *g*
Dude. I'm now having to get out Notepad to respond to one of your eljay posts!
That story was excellent. Did you ever find out what the first one was going to pull you over for? For future reference, if the cop's behind you, pull over. Then if they pull behind you, it must be you they're after. Otherwise, they'll go on by.
Actually, I changed my mind. I like it better when you have days off, cause then you stay up late and we can talk. When you don't, you're off and assumedly asleep before I even get home and online. :(
Mr and Mrs Smith - Hitchcock anomaly. While lots of his movies are humorous, this is the only straight comedy he did. (Well, I think there might have been one or two in the late 1920s in England, but they don't count. He hadn't found his cinematic place yet. Uh-huh. That's it.)
I think my main thing with the longer version of Cinema Paradiso, beyond ruining Alfredo, was that I think it was essentially unnecessary for Toto and Elena to meet again. They met, and then decided not to carry it on past then

I like my new sleep pattern. It allows me to go to work and uni, and still be on in the early mornings to chat. :)
I see what you mean about Cinema Paradiso, but one other thing I think it did was to show another side of movie-love - that some things get left behind and given up when you go on to achieve your ambitions. Although it's debatable whether Alfredo (and later Elena) was right: that had Toto and Elena got together in the end, Toto would not have become a director - I don't think the question would even exist had the added scenes not been put in

That's true, about the Elena, Toto, and the directing. But although Toto did become a well-known director, and apparently made some very good films, he was never happy without Elena. It's possible that he wouldn't have become a director if he had found her, but he might've been happy. Obviously, we don't know for sure if he would've been happy not directing, but we do know that he wasn't happy without her. And we also weren't shown that his movies had an immense and necessary effect on anyone else; that is, we don't know that his becoming a director was essential, in some indirect way through his movies, to other people's happiness and well-being. Thus, I hold that happiness is more important than career, and based on what we saw, he would've been happier with Elena than with his directing career, and thus Alfredo was wrong to be so adamant and deceitful about forcing him to forget about Elena and start a movie career. It's more like Alfredo was living out his own dream through Toto, and I don't think that's ever right

LOL! Next time, pull over, you crazy Welshman! I had the exact opposite reaction the one time I was pulled over. I was on a four lane highway, in the left lane, when I saw the blue lights turn on behind me. I immediately put on my right turn signal and pulled across all four lanes into the breakdown lane then put the car in park before we had come to a complete stop, nearly giving all of my friends whiplash. I thought I was supposed to be the laid back one and you the easily worked up one? *g* I can't believe they had to force you off the road and then handcuff you and put you in the police car. I bet the guys at work *loved* this story
