LA Confidential is such a cool film!!

All About Eve is one of my favourites and I'm really glad to enjoyed it so much! Both George Sanders and Bette Davis can quite fairly be accused of being real old hams in some of their roles but I adore them both and when they are good they are outstanding!!

For George at his dastardly best see Rebecca. Daphney du Maurier'S novel is one of the classics and this film is the best version IMO. Larry Oliver and Joan Fontain star.

While All About Eve is Bettes best film for me there are many others that she's remembered for. Two faves of mine for utterly different reasons are Now Voyager and the infamous Whatever Happened To Baby Jane!

Also do me a favour and watch The Phillidelphia Story with Kate Hepburn and Cary Grant! I think you will appreciate the script!

Pssst!!! More Bette Davis in Old Acquaitance and The Old Maid!

Gah. My DVD rental company isn't too good with Bette Davis. Aside from All About Eve the only film of hers they have at the moment is Death On The Nile. Have you see that one? If so, is it any good?

Gah! They haven't got The Philadelphia Story yet either. *frown* I'll have to email them about this one. I wanna see it!

Oooh, Rebecca is on my list already because I have all their Hitchcock stuff on my list. Will have to make that higher in my priority list. :)

Cheers for all these recommendations. I am keeping a note of them for when the DVD rental company starts adding them to it's library (it's a fairly young company, so is still building up it's collection. *g*) I apppreciate it! :)

Death on the Nile is one of her old hammy ones. I adore Peter Ustinov though so i have seen it a few times. By now means a great film but fun on a rainy afternoon.

Hitchcock eh? Rear Window, Rope, Stranger on a Train are my faves.

Other things that just occured to me for your list: Night of The Hunter, A Streetcar Named Desire, Harvey.

You are very sweet to put up with my pimping recommending all my faves to you...I just love movies and i love to think other people can get the same pleasure out of them as i can, especially someone like you who seems to love the medium so much!

Yes, I do rather love movies. *g* I feel totally the same way about recommending them too. I enjoy movies so much and like others to as well.

I LOVED Rear Window. Rope is near the top of my list I think. And Rebecca is, strangely enough, being delivered to me at this moment. Yay! :D

A Streetcar Named Desire. That's been on TV a fair few times recently, but I keep missing it! Next time. :)

L.A. Confidential is a great movie. Only seen All About Eve once but I remember not disliking it at least.

Been years since I've seen Harold & Maude but I remember finding the scenes where's he's scaring off all the girls, that his mother brings round, pretty funny.

Of course I wanna see Spun at some point.

Yeah, I thought you'd want to see the movie as soon as I saw her on screen. She didn't have a tonne to do in Spun, but I also saw her in My Life Without Me recently, and she was really good in it.

Have you seen 8 Mile? I've been thinking that she would have been a far better casting than Kim Basinger was as Eminem's mom.

No, I haven't seen 8 Mile. Not into rap, although the trailer for it did look promising. Funnily enough Debbie did joke about being Eminem's mom a while back because of her paving the way for white rapping. My favourite Debbie roles so far have been Videodrome and Heavy.

I'm not rap's biggest fan either, but 8 Mile is worth checking out on its own merits. Turned out a lot better than I thought it would. LOL! That would have been a great bit of casting then, for the irony of her paving the way for white rap.

I've not heard of either of those movies. Were they good movies in their own right, or was it just her performances in them that were good?

Just wondering when you find the time to write those essays or alternatively, to sleep? ;0)... I take it you're referring to the Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo and what's her name? I enjoyed that one too. You should contrast that with the Franco Zeferrelli version from the early 70's (or was it the late 60's?) with Olivia Hussey. More traditional, but excellent and Olivia Hussey was scrumptious...

Ooh, neat, will make a note of that. Yeah, it is interesting to see how different director's put a different spin on each play. Like there are tonnes of Hamlet movies, and though I've not actually seen any of them, we watched a few versions of the 'to be or not to be' speech to see how different actors delivered it - was interesting.

LOL about the sleeping and essay writing time. So, so true. :)

L.A. Confidential was recommended to me when I first got a DVD deck along with A Bug's Life. Haven't even thought about getting rid of either of them *g*
Good luck with the rest of the essay-writing.

Thanks!

I've still not seen A Bug's Life, but it sounds really good. My little brothers tell me I should see it. :)

You should listen to them too. A Bug's Life beats the pants off AntZ, the other animated insect feature film of the same release date. Pixar does great stuff *g*

Pixar did A Bug's Life? I had no idea. I still need to see Toy Story 2 and Monster's Inc. as well! :)

Antz was not so good then? *g*
