I went to Anime Boston....I think

Apr 29, 2011 03:45

Been looking forward to AB for quite some time. I even sacrificed my past 3 weekends (made a deal that if I worked these weekends that i could have Boston off) to work in order to be able go to the con.

Thursday night I am watching tv with mah mom and I start to feel like my lymphoid are getting sore. I tried drinking lemon tea to help my throat since it was getting hard to swallow. I had a large headache ( which is rare for me...I hardly get headaches) and I just felt drained. Decided to take a nap before I go back to working on my costume. I shut my alarm off and go back to sleep. I awake at 9am and feel like shit. Set my alarm again for another hour. Wake up, feel like shit again. Turn it off and say, "fuck it...I hate life, I'm living in bed for the rest of the day." I wake again Friday afternoon @ 1pm. Go downstairs. Watch some tv. Eat what is left of the carton of ice cream, half alive. My mom then tells me @ 3pm that I really should start thinking of packing for the con, getting my paycheck cashed and run my errands. By 4pm I think I was somewhat coherent. Started on my sewing, ran out to do final errands and packed. 12am I packed up the car to head to the con. I still feel like shit.

My mom drops me off at the Midtown hotel down the street from the convention center where I was staying with Pachuki and her 2 friends. It's about 1:30am and of course Pachuki is past her bedtime. I set up a little nest on the floor and crash.
Saturday morning I am woken up by all the commotion in the room at 8am. God damn it people..let me fucking sleep! Wake up at 11 and just can't get up. Text messages keep ringing and ringing. I go back to sleep and have a weird dream of having some great sex with the singer John Quale (prince Poppycock)
So naturally, I wasn't getting up. lol It is now 1pm!!! FML I am sooooo late!! I get up, iron out my costume and then put it on. Truthfully though, I think this is the first time where I didn't put much effort into getting ready at a con..um ever. You all know me...takes me like 3 hours since I am such a perfectionist on what I am gonna look like. I just didn't care. No emotions, I just felt like garbage.
Look outside, of course it's raining! AND I have to walk in it! Bundle up in my coat and umbrella and walk down the street. This is where I start to notice my fever. I never get hot, but I was sweating buckets. No stamina and I feel like I was using all my energy just to get me down the road.
Go get my badge, then finally get to artist alley. I realized how much weight I lost since making the costume. The whole top of the costume was just like hanging off me. It looked so saggy and sad and at that point I wanted to scream. So, I made no effort to get any photos since I was so embarrassed on how it looked. (especially since it looked great on me the night before!) I ask around if anyone is sweating because of the heat and no one around me is. I am panting and very fatigued.
Run into some friends at masquerade headquarters like Cassie, Kayla, & Andrew. Also got to see Andrea, Olivia, Rob, Alanna, Renee, & Elle. ^__^ Then I got to see Justin & Chris, followed by Erik. Wandered over to starbucks with Justin to get coffee because I was resorting to that and it was 4:30pm. Handing out easter eggs to promote Pachuki's Chaotic Kiss comic, I ran into Fran Don (guy who puked in my panel @ AAC 2007). He asked me how many gallons of virgin's blood do I drink a year because I look exactly the same as when we met 4 years ago! LOL  The running joke all weekend was that I don't age! That was probably the best boost to my ego I've had in a while.
5:30...it's masquerade time! I take my performance judge seat next to Steven. I am bragging about my awesome Rainbow Dash My Little Pony toy as a prize to him and then Andrew takes his seat next to me...with MLP Pins and a fabulous photo print of the ponies for his judges award!!! OOOOOH YEAH!! *high five to mah bro* Great minds think alike! ^_~ While waiting for the masquerade to start, I decorate my trophy with rainbow stickers and on the front I wrote with glitter stickers "20% Cooler than Everyone".
The skits were good this year. Nothing supper uber fantastic OMGZ but there were like 3 that stood out and the rest were actually not painful like previous years. Everyone made a good effort. In general it takes lots of guts to get up in front of 5,000 person audience being judged by everyone who expects such high levels of entertainment, so I give props to everyone who performed! <3 I know what it's like.
In the end I gave my judges award to this awesome Gurren skit www.youtube.com/watch\
The skit made me laugh loudly! They made lots of great points about the show that I thought as well. I couldn't
help being reminded of loudnbothered 's or  neo2469 's skits (which are some of my favoritist comedy skits ever!) when watching it. Same style of humor I guess. ^___^ Had a great time judging with Lisa, Lo, Steven, Andrew, Kayla, Cassie, and Jewls. The best in show was really cool! Congrads to the Persona 4 skit!
Congrads also to Lindsay for another successful masquerade!! *huggles* Sorry I didn't get to tell her there!
Afterwards, I was able to catch up with the people I gave my judges award to. They were pretty chill and actually know the Rainbow Dash joke! Perfect!!
Exhausted, I caught up with Sophie to meet up for her B-day. Ran into Lady Ava, Starlight Honey, Felicia Cat& Breathlessaire. Had a great conversation with Lady Ava. I love seeing her! Then parted ways. Sophie decided she wanted to go to the hotel bar. Got to hang with Ed, Harris, Peter, & Molly. Ran into AnimeAngel Jessie and Soni while chillin at the bar. Lastly, as I almost pasted out from food deprivation, we all decided as a group to head over to "Spike's" for burgers and hot dogs. I naturally got a veggie burger. It was the best one I've had in so long!! I highly recommend that place! While walking around in my awesome new mary Janes, I trip and fall off of a curb onto my knee. Get my white tights all black and wet, scrape my knee and scuff up my new shoes!! *cry* I think the shoes is the saddest part to me!! ;____; Then Peter being a gentleman walked me back to my hotel since it was way away from everyone else's hotel. Got locked out by Pachuki since I didn't have a key and she fell asleep and wasn't answering her phone to come and get me. *face palm* Then bed.
Get woken up early, pack up my stuff to be put into Pachuki's car. Then go back to sleep and accidentally sleep until 11am. Was woken up by multiple texts. Still feel feverish,so I say screw it and decide to just put on regular clothes and pass on cosplaying! (this again doesn't happen often) Check out of the room and walk over next plaza over to Red Mango. Have some really yummy raspberry cheesecake frozen yogurt with mango and mochi pieces!! yummmy!!!!!*______* omnononon Then head over to the Hynes. Stop at the starbucks and get a frapichino. The barista was super nice and started talking to be about Adventure Time since I was wearing my Adventure Time shirt (one of the many) Sweet!
The last amount of time I had at the con I:
* Went to artist alley. Got to see Celine's (the girl who roomed with Pachuki and I) booth. Beautiful work! I bought a print from her! Cant wait to hang it up! ^__^ Also finally caught up with Jon at his artist alley table. He seemed like he had a busy con! Also ran into Greg Lyon (a very long time friend and ex boyfriend) and his new wife. Had a really nice conversation with him. Haven't seen him in a long time!! It was great to catch up, see pics of his cute daughter.
*Ran into Kiki whom I go to lolita meet ups with. Then to Cassie, Kayla & Andrew. From there I followed them to the dealers room so we can visit with Becky in the dealers room. It was so nice to see her since it's been a while! (Otakon I think?) Seeing all of these people whom I was once really close with made me nostalgic and wanting to start the con over again so we could spend it together. Sadly, I realized there was no time left and I pretty much was out of luck.
This con obviously wasn't half as awesome as it was last year for me, but that had nothing to do with the con itself or anyone else. Being sick just put a big damper on things. So, I apologize to any of you whom I saw and I wasn't in best spirits. Worst weather for an Anime Boston since I can remember. Usually, it's been beautiful and sunny. Not this time. Popular cosplays this weekend: Kuroshitsuji, Hetalia, and Panty & Stocking. Now feeling better looking back, I really wish I could have made it a great experience. Now I must wait for next year! Boo! Hiss! I am just going to have to make the next cons just that much cooler...LIKE 20% COOLER!!
