Anime North 2011 review

Jun 28, 2011 03:11

Yes, Anime North did happen. I went. I laughed. I lolwutted and relaxed...all without a passport!

* Sayings of the weekend: "Baby Corn Holes" "Grassy Knoll" " Free Cake...Free Cake...No Cake..No Cake" "They are throwing Captain Crunch...as tradition. What a proud day for Canada and the rest of the world."

* Drove down with Gary, his girlfriend Jamie, & Jamie's sister, Lindsay. Now that I think of it, it didn't really feel like a 10 hour drive...even though it was. Probably even more. Well, because of all that stupid shit I went through with trying to get my passport on time for the trip and not getting it on time, I had to wing it at the border by just showing them my license and birth certificate. The guard at the boarder to get into Canada was a dick. Asked us like 20 questions. Then told me to be prepared to stay in the country because I probably wouldn't be let back in the US without a passport. Then had to enfisize 3 times within the conversation that I NEED a passport. WELL DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH. If it wasn't for the stupidity of the US state department, I would have had it.

*Got to stop off in NY and visit the Pizza Junction where Corey works. We had a nice Italian meal there. It was a good stop since the weather had been down pouring. I did for the rest of the night. We stayed at some hotel down the street from the con center for Thursday night. Had a wonderful free breakfast in the hotel the next morning! Oh dem scones!!!OMNOMNOM *___*

*Friday I moved my luggage into my room. It was raining the whole day. Didn't feel like going to the con. I was more in the mood for music. Free internet in the hotel so, I spent a lot of it just getting new mp3s and really having a blast! Around 9pm Gary came to see me. We chilled for like an hour. Then I just stayed up and waited for Corey & Richard to come in. They arrived around 1:30am. We feasted on McDonald's that they brought and just hung out until we felt tired.

*Saturday got up in the morning. Got my Princess costume on from Powerpuff Girls Z and went to Chris McKenna's Anime Name that Tune. Richard and I sat in front row to the right side of the room and heckled the audience and contestants when they got the answers wrong. Wish I got to compete! :<

*Then Corey, Richard and I went to Swiss Chalet for lunch/dinner. I remember they had some weird dipping sauce that the restaurant was all about. The sauce was interesting...not bad. Just different. I think I had a veggie burger. Which I remember was really good.

*From there off to the warehouse...I mean dealer's room for hours! Corey was looking for a figure to add to his collection. I was just tagging along. Richard bought a really nice statue of Dale Earnhardt from Nascar. It was the running joke for the rest of the con that only Richard would go to an anime con and come back with Nascar merchandise! Corey made the joke that at the bottom of the figure there is a bottle opener. LOL  I found a $1 manga that Richard nicely bought for me. It's called "The Bride of Deimos". I adored the art, so I really wanted to buy it. ^__^ Met some new peeps who liked my costume and liked the Powerpuff Girls Z. Ran into Chibik3r0 and talked with him and his friends. They were bros. It was cool seeing people that I kinda knew since this con had pretty much no one I knew except a very small amount.

*Went back to the Hotel room for the night. Watched The drawn Together movie with Corey & Richard. Then around 11pm Gary, Jamie & Lindsay came to our room. This was one of my favorite parts of the con. We hooked up Corey's laptop to the big screen tv in our room and we played the SNES emulator Family Feud!! OMG!! It was soooo much fun!! I wish I could remember half the stuff we said because it was so funny! Then we watched the rest of the Drawn Together movie...in which I missed the last 15 minutes of cuz I fell asleep. (but from what I heard it wasn't worth seeing anyways)

*Sunday woke up and put on my Ririka School uniform from Nurse Angel Ririka SOS. Corey was hosting 2 game shows so he left the room sooner than I did. I instead had to say goodbye to Gary & Jamie since they were heading home, then off to the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic panel.

*I get lost on the way to the panel. When I arrive, the room was completely packed. I guess the staff could sense I was a pony fan because she let me in and said I was the last person that could come in. The room was PACKED!! I mean 2 rows of people sitting on the floor in the front of the room. Two rows of people standing completely circling the room. It was worth the small amount of time I was in that boiler room! It was just so wonderful to be around other people that love MLP FIM as much as I do! *___*  If you would like to see the panel, someone uploaded it to youtube here: youtu.be/vd0XteT_zuM

*Lastly, was my panel called, "Beat Darcy @ Anime Name That Tune!" I got to see Theressa, Corey's cute almost legal friend whom I like! Also there were other people from the previous name that tune panel the day before, whom I recognized. One was a girl cosplaying as Chopper, whom I knew was good from the day before. Funny enough these people would be going against me. I'll have to say I've been a bit rusty with it. Way out of practice. I've found anything after 2008, will stump me most likely. My strength is 90's anime-2005. For some reason  1997 and 2002 is my most knowledgeable years for shows. We'll let's just say the last round was pretty close! The girl I was going up against was really really good. The song I won it on was Country Roads from Whispers of the Heart. I blanked at first, but got it correct. *relief sigh* I wouldn't have heard the end of it if I had lost! LOL  After the gameshow, Corey, Richard and I went to the local Japanese restaurant across the street from the con center. Then finished off the night with some episodes of Adventure Time (since Corey had never seen it before)

So yeah. That was my con. Nothing amazing, but it was fun none the less! It was nice to finally go to a con with Gary & Jamie. Of course, happy to see Richard since I don't think I've seen him since December. Plus any Corey time is always wanted!
This is what I feel about the boarder crossing:
