I'm pro-choice, but I think that even if I were pro-life I would have an issue with these photos. Not so much the photos themselves, but putting up such graphic images out in the public where small children could see them. That's traumatizing and that's not right. There are better ways to get a point across.
That said, they did this in my area too, picketed right outside my high school when I was a junior. That was sad since Planned Parenthood had no presence at my school and our curriculum was abstinence-based. All they were doing was messing with the minds of a bunch of high school kids, as well as displying gruesome images in the middle of a small town's morning commute.
I really am opposed to that sort of thing. I have a hard enough time when animal rights activists start showing gruesome pics of trapped, beaten, skinned animals. To have dead babies shoved in my face is more than I can handle. I am a VERY visual person and have a horrible time getting images out of my head. I lose sleep because those things play over and over in my mind. I think many activists let thier cause take over their compassion.
I am pro-life, and still respect the freedom of speech of those who disagree with me.
But, to show those pictures is just cruel. They don't know the circumstances of anyone else, and therefore should not judge.
And what about those women who go to Planned Parenthood for normal medical care because they don't have insurance? Or who simply need birth control? Do they deserve to be treated to that?
Hi, I saw your posting after finding you on my friend Susan's journal. Since you asked for opinions I thought it would be OK to respond.
Like you, I am pro-life but realize there are cases at times that must be looked at individually.
The sad thing is that, for the most part, society has been desensitized to what abortion really is. Babies grow strong from the very beginning, so it takes that kind of brutality to abort them. We are told this is nothing more than a "procedure" and that these are nothing more than "fetuses"... so I guess it's reached the point where only pictures tell the real story. It's not debatable after seeing those photos. They were babies.
Once again, I feel there are times when this must be done--like to save the mother's life. But it should never be taken as lightly as it usually is or used simply as birth control. Susannah

I believe in freedom of expression but that is just getting in the way of my own freedom not to see such images.
I'm not blind to the problem...I don't need to see it.
