Darcy went to work that night after Ford left. She spent the entire night in her office tracking stars and charts and vanishing inside herself where she knew she was safe. Or as safe as she ever felt she'd be. She was alone and she tried desperately to pretend that wasn't the case, or at least that she didn't care. Instead, she found herself more ( Read more... )

It was a bleary-eyed and tired-looking Ford that knocked on her door that day. It wasn't just insomnia, it was a hang-over. The traces of alcohol on his breath revealed that much.

It had been a long night, and equally long day so far. Hadn't it been for Francis he would have stayed in bed. But the day moved on with its usual obligations whether he liked it or not. Francis still needed to be fed and kept company, and Darcy... Darcy still needed to be trained, and that was that.

He still didn't know what to do about the day before. He had more answers now, after a night with a bottle. But it was answers he didn't like one bit, and he would keep on denying what he'd figured out.

There was a knock on the door and it was loud enough to wake her. She sat up and rubbed her face before standing to wander towards door. She was barefoot and tired. She looked like a mess, but she felt surprisingly okay. That is, until she opened the door.

He wreaked. She screwed up her nose at him and furrowed her brow. "What are you doing here?"

He stared blankly at her. He felt more in control today, even if he was more or less dead on his feet.

"I recall saying that I would be back to torture you some more today." She wasn't getting out of it.

She stood in the doorway and stared at him. She wasn't really all that into letting him in the house. Not after last night. She felt her fingers twitch, that sense of nervousness coming back into her when he was there. It was strange how he'd been the one to induce that calm morning yet he brought it crashing back down.

Eventually she stepped back into the house, leaving the door open for him.
