Last car I bought I found a win/win combo tactic which cut out the sleazy dealer negotiations issue we all love so much.
I bought a Ford, so this might vary a little with other dealers, BUT I went the online route to spec out a car I wanted and get a legitimate MSRP IN PRINT. Then I used the handy "make dealer request" at the end so I would get a call back from a live human being. The way they worked it, I got to to go the dealership in person, which is what I wanted, and deal with what they called an "online dealer representative" or some such. I had an appointment and a pre-determined sticker price from which to work and after that it was a tiny amount of finagling to get exactly what I wanted.
It beat the shit out of cold visiting the dealer and hooking up with the first guy out of the block.

I will ALWAYS go that route from now on.
Just a thought.
