Question to Ponder

Jul 30, 2009 09:18

Is it, as one is taught at an early age, better to assume the best in people - only to be hurt when they betray you? Or, rather, is it better to assume the worst in people - only to be brightened when someone acts kindly?

Which side do you stand on and why?

I think you need to find a middle ground! Treat people as though you expect the best of them and give them the chance to be their best, but hang onto a kernel of realism that lets you be prepared for them to let you down. That seems like one way to remain balanced, but still leaning toward positivity.

Well, while all those are perfectly boring answers you aren't really answering his question, just avoiding it.

Personally I think its better to assume the best in people, yea, you do get hurt once in a while, but that way you have it either one of 2 ways A) its a good person and everyone is happy and you can go watch A Little Snow Fairy Sugar together or B) They hurt you and you can feel completely vindicated in making their life harder on them.

To automatically assume the worst of people is really putting the cart before the horse, or the savior on the cross as it were.
