Haven't had a cigarette since roughly 8pm yesterday. Don't want to. I find myself equal parts hyper and haggard, rambling yet concise. It's absolutely bizarre

As a successful quitter here, smoke free for eight years, you know what helped?
A standardized extract of lobelia. Lobelia is a native American plant that has been used in Native American pharmacology for thousands of years. It contains lobeline, a chemical similar in properties to nicotine, but not addictive. However, it tricks your brain during the withdrawal process into thinking it's still getting nicotine, and greatly eases withdrawal symptoms.
I highly recommend it. But of course, check to make sure there are no conflicts with any meds you might be taking, if you do try it make sure that you get a standardized extract from a good company like Gaia Herbs, follow label directions, blah blah blah.
There are many different species of lobelia, some of them toxic, so I strongly discourage you from sampling what you have. A standardized prepared extract is much, much better, otherwise even if you have the right species, you'd have to eat a bunch of huge leaves to get what you need

I was mostly curious which lobelia was under discussion, yeah. I have the usual flowerbed type, L. erinus, which isn't poison and has been used homeopathically in the past, but I can't find anything to show it's Considered Useful these days. Looks like the extract you reference is L. inflata, "Indian tobacco", which makes perfect sense, really.
What you say about GNC is exactly why I perked up my ears about possible in-house sourcing, because I've heard too many tales of herbal supplement manufacturers putting the most blatant falsehoods on their labels--like saying "3% Blahwort" when in fact there isn't a scrap of the stuff to be found in the bottle.
you'll be ok. just try not to substitute one addiction for another. unless you get hooked on slashfic or like, hello kitty. i think those are relatively safe... :D
there are always herbal cigarettes, but they tend to smell like burnt fishy crotch when lit, so i can link you if you want, but cold turkey is probably best...
