I promised to blog during the convention, but I couldn't get wireless access, so I kept a sort of running commentary diary of the day instead. See under cut for all the ups and downs of Day 1 of Avcon:
I've worked in retail my entire life. I know how to sell stuff, lol. I talked to and tried to sell something (even at drastically reduced prices) to everyone who even so much as glanced at our table.
And I wasn't just saying "Oh, it's not my artwork". I'm saying (my words exactly): "I wish I could take credit for the artwork. I'm part of a team that's putting together a comic book. I'm the writer. The artist lives in Brisbane and couldn't make it this year". Nothing off or question raising in that. People still gave me blank looks like: "what's a writer doing here?" sort of thing.
Today didn't go much better sales wise. Can you please work on the comic and website rather than the pinups? I've got far too many prints to get rid of before I even start thinking of making up more. Even a skeleton site is better than no site at all.
I understand each convention is different. I knew that going in to this venture. I just wasn't expecting Avcon to be such a BIG failure. I'm just hoping SMASH! and Manifest help make up for it.
