character; Kuja
series; Final Fantasy IX
age; 24
special abilities; Kuja can create Black Mages from Mist using machinery and magic, summon Mistodons from Mist, and control monsters (primarily dragons, being shown to control an army of Silver Dragons led by a Nova Dragon) as well. Possessing telekinesis, he is able to float and move objects at will. In addition to offensive black magic he can cast spells like that which put people to sleep, as he has done to Garnet and Eiko during attempted Eidolon extraction.
{Battle maneuvers taken from Dissidia} Described as a Graceful Glider, Kuja can attack while moving and gliding through the air. When Kuja is close to the enemy during an attack he will either create a flare ball in front of him that drills into before launching them away or he creates a hula-hoop of spheres around him that juggle the enemy for a second before shooting them up into the air. If Kuja is far away from the target he will either surround them with several spheres that cross through them while dealing damage and sending them in the air, or he blasts the opponent up and down several times with flare spells. He is the only character that doesn’t use physical attacks whatsoever.
The strongest spells in the game (Curaga, Meteor, Holy, and Flare) are in his cast list. When entering Trance Kuja’s power increases exponentially. His final spell, only seen cast in Trance, is Ultima; not something to be thrown around lightly as it causes massive environmental damage.
history;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_Final_Fantasy_IX#Kujapersonality; Aside from being a narcissist, Kuja has many other distinguishable personality traits. He is rebellious, bitter, sarcastic, theatrical in his mannerisms, and power-hungry.
All of Kuja's personality traits stem from the fact that he is a genome with a soul -- he is alive merely to do as Garland wishes. A Genome is a vessel of flesh without a spirit created by Garland on the planet Terra. He is one of few with a soul, the other two being Zidane and Mikoto. Naturally, this brings out his rebellious side. He wants to defy his creator, and so he resorts to severely altering his appearance and going about things his own way. All the other Genomes look exactly the same, from the blonde hair to the facial features - save for the obvious differences between male and female - which is why Kuja chose to alter his hair as much as he did, apply make-up, and wear lavish and strange robes. To make his rebellion worthwhile, he feigns obedience long enough to truly betray Garland. In a way he served the Genomes as a beacon of hope by rejecting the role that was handed to him, defying his fate, and taking destiny into his own hands.
Practically the textbook definition of narcissistic, Kuja thinks he is superior to everyone in every way -- looks, intellect, etc. Since he feels that he is superior, he feels that the world and everyone in it should revolve around him and his desires. After all, when he finds out that his life is soon to end, he proclaims, "Why should the world exist without me? That wouldn't be fair. If I die, we all die!" Kuja has no perception of other's feelings. To him, the only important thing is how he feels and that he gets everything he could possibly dream of.
The rebellious Genome does a good job of flaunting his narcissistic nature through the way he dresses. He dresses provocatively, as if to show how physically better he is than everyone else. He knows he has a good body, so he flaunts it. He knows he has a beautiful face, so he draws attention to it through makeup. Not only that, but he constantly uses terms like "ugly" and "fat" to insult people. An example of this is when he says, "Not bad... better if I didn't have to see those vermin and the ugly elephant-lady. They offend my senses." He is very preoccupied with looks, whether they are good or bad.
Because of the role he was dealt, Kuja is also extremely bitter and sarcastic. He can't accept that he is anything like the soulless genomes wandering Terra, and this is what causes his bitterness. Sarcasm is often coupled with bitterness, and Kuja is no exception to this rule. Many of his comments are witty and caustic with that additional little sarcastic flair.
Kuja is also very creative and loquacious as a villain with highly complex, intricate and entertaining monologues. He is incredibly eccentric in his personality and mannerisms in a way that is not quite typical of a person who is most appropriately described as a war monger. Theatrical in nature, his speech patterns are highly metaphorical and somewhat jovial; he refers to Garnet as a “canary,” and Brahne as “the elephant-lady,” for example. Additionally, during the scene of the game right before he commands Bahamut to attack Alexandria, he’s standing out in a courtyard and reciting a poem to himself that directly relates to the upcoming events. His love of luxury is evidenced by observing the Desert Palace; statues and paintings litter the halls, most elegant in nature, reflective of his taste in art and preference to be surrounded by beautiful things.
Kuja's personality is consumed by the desire to want power, wealth, good looks, anything. He craves anything and everything, and he goes to any length to get what he wants. He feels he deserves everything that he wants as well, but that's as a result of both his narcissism and his aspiration to rebel against Garland.
