I was fighting a battle against the Kyuubi. I was performing a seal upon my son, Naruto, which surely should have taken my life, but.. it seems that isn't so.

Yes, I sealed inside of my newborn son, using the Dead Demon Consuming Seal, to stop it from further destroying our village.. and it should have taken my life in exchange.
