Last year, I faced a squad of young goth lolis trying to sell me clothes at my school's funfair. "Lolita is not cosplay," they were saying, despite the fact that prior to this, I had not said anything about cosplay, and only talked about the sign at their store that said "Lolita =/= cosplay". Listening to their explanations over the shouts of the

I think you've got the crux of the problem nailed: they're at the wrong convention and everyone is too polite - no, too Singaporean to point it out, or add rules or disclaimers. I think everyone would be a lot happier if they made a lolita-themed convention, once and for all. And we cosplayers wouldn't go trapezing into their tapestries and ruining the corseted festivities. Everyone would be happy.
"I like dressing like this so that people will take pictures of me and say I look cute"They want desperately to believe that they are being cute for cuteness' sake. Any girl draped in 10 metres of lace and damask must be ravishing, simply by nature of ... 10 metres of very heavy, intricate drapery. The photo taking is the just an unavoidable (but welcome! teehee!) side effect of dressing up. PLEASE, PEOPLE, WAKE UP. If you were so brain numbing gorgeous, you wouldn't have to be rolling around on the floor with two other girls before I decide to snap your photograph ( ... )

But I am floored by the applause. I bow my times. (Not very low, though, I don't want to smash my face into my computer screen.) ^_______^ THANK YOU~~~
A lot of the problem with goth loli is the posturing. We have this funny "lesbian for a day" culture, and these strange signs saying stuff like "I made this at home just like in Japan" (so where do you live?) and best of all, on the forums I never understand what they're trying to say.
The lace and damask example is so true it's sad. In the normal world, more cloth makes you... fatter. That's why people try not to wear too much cloth.
And even stranger, actually a lot of girls get lots of photos at conventions. So I don't know why they're glaring away.

Streetfest is actually J-rock. I really think the lolis should get an event of their own and stop showing up everywhere like at my school's funfair. What next, my auntie's neighbourhood store?

I just got around to seeing the photographs of your tea party and they seem much much higher quality in terms of dressing and style. (No satin!!) I once went to Haru to check it out and found to my (and the store clerk's) displeasure that all the lace rips very easily.
Sure, you can post the link... Just let me friend you on my f-list? So that I know what's happening... ^_^
