If you do decide to read Laurell K Hamilton, I warn you to stick with the first few novels. Once the book has over 50% more sex than the rest of the story to weigh it out, then it needs to go!
I mean sex is good, when it's meant to be...the sleeping beauty series writeen by Anne Rice was AMAZING...
However when you come to expect great storytelling, and great characters, and this great supernatural worl with just hints of kink...and end up reading over 300 pages of just lazy writing portrayed as smut...well that's uneccessary...
*ranting done*
But the book log should prove to be interesting, one to see what I actually read during the year, and two to actually see if I remember to keep it up...
I just finished reading Inubus Dreams on the way into work today...over 600 pages...and lets just say...if you cut out about 300 pages of uneccessay sex, still leaving in the 100 pages of story progressing sex, then the remaining 200 pages would have been a really well done story...
This seems to be the consensus opinion on Amazon. It seemed like most of the reviews for this book seemed to point out how they felt this novel was overly padded with one sex scene after another. And they felt that the quality of her novels had taken a downward turn.
Why is it women seem to not be able to write unless they include sex? Do they feel their work will not be worthy unless they put in a little kink?So a lot of the female authors you've been reading seem to overdo it with the sex scenes, huh? Interesting. I find it very strange when you hear various prominent females talk about sex on TV or in print. Some seem to take the view that women being sexual is liberating and a way of otherthrowing the dreaded patriarchy. And then you have these women

Well that's just it exactly. It was OK when it was here and there and it was important to progress the story...binding vampire marks, sex with her fiance, things to do with her powers, etc. But when it's just one big orgy after another, then it just feels wrong. Sex in her office, then a threesome at a club, then another guy in the back seat of the car, a threesome with two shifters, a threesome with her ex and one of her current bfs...and on and on...and that's not even all the sex from one book!

...Not sure if I can make it either...but I'm hoping so...my father in law just returned home and he demands a lot of attention...
*sigh*
As for books...you might be as intrigued as I was by the LA Banks books, Kelley Armstrong, and of course another I can't remember right now...
What else do you enjoy reading? (genres)

I started keeping a book log this year (first in print, now online). I've found it's been rather rewarding doing so.

PS--I dunno, sex is like seasoning to me. You need to get it just right in a novel.
