But that's the thing, Tom's of Maine was just becoming increasingly popular and well known, so there was no reason to believe that they would lose their customer base.

If all these alternative and ethical companies keep getting bought out by the big plays in the industry, there will be no-one to compete on an ethical level. Tom's Of Maine are no longer ethical since their profits will go to Colgate rather than a company with established ethics. That's the strange thing about Anita Roddick selling Body Shop, because they had a strong anti-animal testing policy, yet sold to a company that test on animals like there's no tomorrow. That doesn't make sense to me if you really believe product mustn't be tested on animals because, again, the profits from the non-animal testing products of Body Shop will now go to the animal-testing L'Oreal/Nestle.

And that Fennel Toothpaste is by Kingfisher, who haven't been bought out yet. And you bought the Body Shop scrub before they were acquired anyway. :)
