I have an

I think my biggest needs right now are a curent version of Logic as I'm still using Ver: 4.8 and the Mackie hardware controller for it as it'd really help speed up my working process.

I was lucky in getting Logic for free just before Apple clamped down and stopped Emagic from having a VIP program (Apple doesn't give their software away like that). I wouldn't mind the Mackie controller myself (if funds allowed) but if I had the money I' still wait a little longer too see if the rumors of an Apple controller hold true (though many things Apple develops never make to final production)
Shame for you and lucky for them that Logic is no longer crackable, and hasn't been since 4.8 and the emulator...

I didn't know that Apple was going to come out with a dedicated controller? Any links to info on this?

I was saying that I can relate to having no money etc. Been there/done that, a few times too many.
I wasn't making any negative comment in reference to your post, quite the contrary.
As for a Apple/Emagic hardware controller. they're just rumors and educated guesses based on what they've been asking pro's about and what they've hinted at. Some report seeing an early "ProTools killer prototype, but like I sad, Apple develops many things that never make it to production for various reasons.
Incidentally, such a controller would likely tie i with the Final-Cut Post market, which would potentially be much more lucrative for Apple. Pro musicians/studios are a very small niche after all. Apple bought Emagic mainly for the technology, as seen by Garageband and Soundtrack.
