Poor Elk! A couple of years back we had a pair of magpies nesting in one of the trees outside our kitchen window and we regularly see groups of them. A couple of weeks ago, there were a pair of magpies and a couple of crows fighting over territory. I think the crows won.

I think magpies qualify as the clowns of the corvid family. I keep hearing of people that have raised magpies as pets, but I've yet to actually meet one.

You'd think the elk wouldn't mind getting rid of a few ticks... But I don't think I've ever seen a magpie before.

Although, one of mom's neighbors raised a crow, and it loved ice (of all things). It would peck the crap out of you to get you to let go of your cup and let it have the ice. >,
