Peru

When I think of Peru, I think of the lush green slopes around Machu Picchu, and about half of Peru is green and tropical (the Urubamba, which flows past Machu Picchu, eventually ends up in the Amazon). You know, I can't remember seeing any. I suspect we were toward or above the top of their altitude range for a lot of the time and, of course, it was winter. A lot of the really high altiplano was above the tree-line and had very little except dry grass. (The people who live up there burn animal dung to heat their homes because there isn't anything else.)
