I've been winter camping in the white mountains dozens of times (having been raised there and having been in the boy scouts) and i can tell you it's an awesome experience as long as you stay warm and dry. Bring more clothes then you think you will need (lots of socks and an extra pair of boots) and get a sleeping bag rated for at least -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on how far north and how high in altitude you go, you may want one rated for -20.
