Have you seen that SPEED commercial?

There's a new ad on tv, and it opens with dark yellow writing on a black screen "do you know what SPEED does to a game junkie ( Read more... )

I second that! Though it's true I didn't know the context of 'smack my bitch up' in that prodigy song (when it first came out anyway) those adds shouldn't be taken seriously. Just laugh at the narrow minded people, who have LOST the war on drugs and are resorting to scare tactics. They'll never know the feeling, as the finer grade of pharmacueticals gently tugs at the endorphin dispenser of their brain...
Pity them, Sparkius.
Pity their small minds and souls...

Well... dark_spark May 30 2003, 00:47:51 UTC
I'm not exactly Pro-drug use, more of a pro-freedom of choice kind of person....

I don't believe everyone should take drugs/drink etc, but i believe that people should have the right to choose, and more importantly, the right to an INFORMED choice, as opposed to a choice based on scare tactics and propaganda...

So yes, in a way i do pity them. I have no qualms about them stating the dangers of drug use, too many people have died through carelessness/naivety. If the ad is informationally correct, then screen away, but if it's just speading MISinformation, then that's misleading advertising, and just as you can't say Coke cleans the teeth and freshens the breath, you shouldn't be allowed to say speed causes ridiculous behaviour as portrayed in that particular commercial. If that's what they're inferring, of course.

Shit, is that what that ad's trying to say?!

I've seen it a couple of times, and I just didn't get it. Presumably because, as you said, WTF does that have to do with speed?

The war on drugs is full of shit anyway. At least now said shit is floating to the surface, where everyone can see it.

Spot on. dark_spark May 30 2003, 01:03:25 UTC
Until the war on drugs includes alcohol, and becomes realistic in it's expectations (a drug free society would be one without prozac, valium, painkillers, and all the other "socially acceptable" drugs out there, which just isn't realistic/sensible.)

When society turns a blind eye to the use of some drugs, tries to demonize others, and retires to their home after work for a glass of wine, it's hard to take anything the anti-drug people say seriously. Like i said, i'm not pro/anti-alcohol, or pro/anti-drugs, i just believe in freedom of choice.

They are definately losing the war these days, because you can't scare the youth of today (on the whole), we're too sceptical of scare tactics and simply walk away. You can only tell them the truth and allow them to make an informed decision.

As you said, at least most of the shit they spew at us is coming to the surface, making us turn to the cleaner pools of information out there. Once again, a link to Erowid the best and most informative site i've found.

i havent actually seen the commercial but from what you said i don't think it'll end up having anything to do with drugs, it's prolly. the first part of an ad strategy to promote some new game they are going to release. the ones where oyu aren't meant to havea clue as to what's going on till the second ad. but then again i _haven't_ seen the ad. so i don't actually know if at any times a logo of anti drugs or somehting comes on the screen, so i'll just shut up now :)

It's got big Drug campaign logos slapped all over the ad, so it ain't a game release. I'm all for freedom of choice, or even just to get rid of some inconsistancies in the legal system. The people behind these ads haven't tried the stuff, so god knows why they feel they're entitled to such a professional opinion, as informed as their research may make them. What I really hate is it's legal to junk food your way to cholesterol problems, smoke your way to lung cancer, drink your way to liver destruction but drugs are still bad, mmkay. According to my research for every person who dies of an illict substance two hundred and seventy five more will die from a legal one. Just say know

Nice one bruv! dark_spark May 31 2003, 03:30:17 UTC
My point exactly. The dangers of illicit substances are equal if not less than the dangers of legal drugs (i'm thinking alcohol) as are the number of associated deaths (car crashes etc).

So nice point =)
