I've kept some tokens of a lover of mine.

A present or former lover?

Former only the sense of a departed previous Barge resident. The love is still there, or I wouldn't hang onto these mementos.

[He gives a nod.] I understand.

[Kevin's response is to hold up a microchip-on a necklace around his neck.]

[That'll get a curious tilt of his head.]

Might I ask what the connection is to that?

First computer I ever built. [He smiles fondly] It...

The parts were a gift from my dad? He was never really into computers. However, he wasn't too busy to sit with me while I built it.

Did he help you build it or did he mostly watch?

Thanks to Braxiatel's terrible aim, I was snatched off my planet without warning and with nothing more than the clothes on my back. [He will never let go of that.] So away from the Barge, everything I used to possess is long gone now. Universes away. As is the place I hold dear.

There are a few gifts I've received on the Barge, however, that I'd be reluctant to part with. [But he doesn't say what they are or who gave the gifts.]

I suppose it's good that you've been able to make such connections after being uprooted in such a way.

Holds a special place in my heart?

My home. My country... but there's nothing here to remind me of it besides what little came with me. Everything else is different here.

If you could have something from that place with you now, what would it be?

I wouldn't wish this place on anyone I know... so something of the land itself. There isn't a single flower in the gardens that I recognize and all the food has been strange, too, even if there are more of either than we ever had at home.

Sounds like it was a difficult life.

Have you made any requests for either? I know the kitchen is pretty willing to try new dishes if you tell them how it's made. I'm not quite so familiar with how the gardens are managed.

A good many things. But my music and my poetry books. Well... the poetry.

Is there a certain poem or the collection as a whole?

Every poem reminds me of something, or somebody, different.

Impressive. I admit I was never very well versed in poetry, but I can enjoy reading them sometimes.
