How would we go about lighting the streets? Torches would be washed out in moments, and I do not know what sorts of oil lamps would suffice here.

Ah, there's a few different ways some of us can produce light ourselves. A carefully sheltered lamp with a candle inside might do the trick till the water rises over where it is hung. And we have a lot of varied people here. I can light the way on my street [X,y] to anyone who needs it.

My cousin has been keeping the fire going in the main room of our home, but we have tried to preserve our candles. The little machines give off light like candles somehow, and so can help us through the house. Although, if the water grows much higher, I fear it will crest the hearth, and our fire will be in jeopardy.
