Chapter 1
No one’s POV
Kyuhyun slumped against his locker and yawned. Two months into school, and he was already anticipating summer.
‘Kyu!’
‘Yeah?’ He yawned again.
‘Have you seen that new girl?’ His friend, Changmin asked, pulling some books and notebooks out of his locker.
‘Is she pretty?’ Kyuhyun glanced at Changmin.
‘Quite.’ Changmin bounced up and down. ‘Look! There she is.’
Kyuhyun turned his head and caught sight of a girl walking towards his direction. She kept her head down, not looking up, flushing as she went.
She stopped and opened the locker next to him. She placed some books inside her bag and was about to close the locker when someone pushed her from behind, making her crash into her locker and causing some books to fall out.
‘Ouch!’ She winced, turning around. A girl smirked at her. ‘What’re you looking at, newbie?’
The new girl turned her back on the smirking girl. The girl’s smirk instantly vanished, and she started to beat the new girl up.
Kyuhyun grabbed hold of the furious girl’s wrists. ‘Leave her alone.’
‘But-‘
‘Yoona.’ Kyuhyun looked calmly at her.
Yoona glared at the now trembling girl. ‘I’m not finished with you, pipsqueak.’ She tossed her hair and stalked away with her cronies.
The trembling girl shakily started to pick her things up. So many people were laughing.
Laughing at her.
Just then, two hands handed her the rest of her books. Glancing up, she saw a boy holding out her books. ‘Oh… thanks.’ She took her books, stuffed them into her locker and ran to the female’s washroom.
Kyuhyun gaped at the fleeing girl.
‘Kyuhyun, if you don’t get a move on we’ll be late for the meeting!’
Kyuhyun shook off his bewilderment and ran off after his friend.
The new girl slammed the washroom door after her. She leaned against a wall. The door clicked softly and the new girl’s head snapped up. A girl her age was washing something in the sink. She looked at her.That girl looked at her. ‘I saw what happened. Are you alright?’
‘Yeah. Thanks. By the way, what’s your name? Mine’s Sooyoung.’
‘I’m Hyoyeon. Which homeroom are you in?’
‘202. Are you in 202 as well?’ ‘Yeah! Actually, we should go there now.’ The new girl was pulled away by the other girl.
Sooyoung’s POV
‘Good morning students. Say hello to your new classmate, Choi Sooyoung.’
Mumbles of greeting filled the room. Blushing, I entered the classroom and greeted my new classmates.
‘Miss Choi Sooyoung, please sit next to Mr Cho Kyuhyun.’ The teacher pointed at …
Oh. It was that good-looking boy who helped her pick up my books.
I walked to my new seat. Thankfully, Hyoyeon sat on my other side.
I sat, put her book bag under my seat and ignored the stares burning into my skin.
First lesson was Maths. Great. I was really bad at Maths. Looks like I was going to fail miserably and embarrass myself in Maths. I wanted to dump my books out of the windows. But being the good student I am, I grudgingly took out my Maths textbook and notebook.
The Maths teacher walked in. We greeted the teacher and started the Maths lesson.
Fifty agonising minutes later, the Maths lesson finished off with no homework. Relived, I slammed the textbook shut and stuffed it into my book bag.
That guy- Kyuhyun- glanced at me. ‘So… Hi.’
‘Nice to meet you. I’m Choi Sooyoung… but I guess you already knew that.’ I blushed.
‘So… umm… what’s your favourite subject?’
‘Music. And you?’
‘Maths.’ He said, jabbing his pencil at his textbook. ‘Judging by the horrified look on your face, I’d say you hate it.’
I blushed, slightly embarrassed. ‘Numbers don’t really make sense to me.’
He chuckled. ‘Well, if you need any help in Maths, I’ll be there.’
‘Gee…thanks.’
‘Can I see your classwork?’ Shrugging, I slid it over to him.
‘You’re really bad at Maths, aren’t you?’ He commented, flicking through it.
‘Yes. Probably because I hate it.’
‘Too bad.’ He paused for a while. ‘Do you have someone to eat lunch with?
Startled, I looked at him. ‘You do know this is my first day here, right?’
Ignoring my snarky comment, he continued, ‘I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch with me and my friends. Don’t worry, we have girls there.’ He smiled hopefully.
‘Will that girl be there?’ I shivered slightly.
‘What- oh. No, Yoona won’t be there. I promise.’ He looked at me earnestly.
‘Okay then.’ The corners of my lips lifted.
‘Yes!’ he punched the air. ‘I, Cho Kyuhyun have finally succeeded in making Choi Sooyoung smile.’
I rolled my eyes. ‘Fine. But honestly, did you have to do that so loudly?’
Half of the class was looking at us weirdly.
Kyuhyun waved his arm and said, ‘Oh, nothing, everyone, you can go back to your work.’
The class went back to their work. ‘Next time, please don’t do that.’ I frowned playfully.
’Okay, okay.’ He raised his arms in surrender. The teacher walked in, and we didn’t chat until lunch.
Kyuhyun’s POV
Wow. I actually had a conversation with that pretty girl. Choi Sooyoung. What a beautiful name.
I actually sneaked a peek at her when I was doing Maths. She had thick and long dark brown hair; was tall with a slender figure; and her eyes. Wow. They were big brown ones with thick long eyelashes, the ones most girls wanted.
She wasn’t really good at Maths, though, which was quite a bit of a letdown. She seemed smart and friendly enough though, so I invited her to my table for lunch. Why is my stomach filling with butterflies?
Sooyoung’s POV
KRRING!!
Students ran out of the classroom after saying goodbye to the teacher.
The canteen was so full I was a bit petrified when I saw it. Confidently, Kyuhyun dragged me to a rather full table.'Say hi to my friends, Sooyoung.'
'Hi, I said nervously.
‘Oh! Sooyoungie!’
‘Hyoyeon!’ I felt relieved. At least it wouldn’t be so awkward.
‘You two already know each other?’ Kyuhyun looked at us.
‘Let’s just say I helped her out.’ Hyoyeon shot me a quick glance.
‘You two’d better buy lunch. But before that, why are you still holding Sooyoung’s wrist?’ The whole table was staring at my wrist.
I looked at my wrist, and Kyuhyun’s hand was still wrapped around it.
Embarrassed, we removed ourselves from each other. Weird, why’s my heart beating so fast?
I awkwardly laughed. Kyuhyun, who was blushing as furiously as me, muttered, ‘Let’s go and buy lunch, Sooyoung.’ He glared at his laughing friends, and went off to buy lunch.
‘Wah! So much food!’ I piled my tray with yummy food. Kyuhyun glanced at my tray, ‘That’s a lot. Are you sure you’re going to eat all that?’
‘Yup.’ I walked back with Kyuhyun by my side. ‘I think I should start calling you Shikshin.’ He joked.
‘That’s my nickname. In my old school.’ I gave him a very startled look.
‘Really? I think I know why.’ He smirked. We sat down next to each other.
‘So…I’m Hyoyeon, as you know. You can call me Hyo.’ Hyoyeon extended her hand and I shook it.
‘Hello, I’m Changmin, Kyuhyun’s best friend.’ Changmin winked at her. ‘What?!’ He defensively asked a glaring Kyuhyun. Everyone laughed as Kyuhyun said, ‘Control your playboy genes please.’
‘I’m Seohyun, Hyoyeon unnie’s sister.’ A shy girl dipped her head in embarrassment. ‘Please call Seo instead.’
‘I’m Eunhyuk, the dancing machine. Hyukie is preferred, but “Anchovy” is ok. Oh, and here is my twin, Donghae. He has a sore throat so he can’t speak today.’ A brown-haired guy smiled happily as he wrapped an arm around Hyoyeon while indicating to a boy with a brown cap.
‘I’m Sunny, and this is my boyfriend, Sungminnie. You can call him Minnie.’
‘Yah, Sunny, only you can call me Minnie!’ A cute guy pouted.
‘Cut in out, guys!’ A blonde girl shouted while stealing a couple of French fries from Kyuhyun.
‘Hey! Jessica!’ Kyuhyun made a grab for his French fries, but it was too late. ‘Muhahaha!!!’ Jessica let off an evil laugh.
‘…’ Kyuhyun fell silent. Suddenly he grabbed one of Jessica’s chicken nuggets and stuffed into his mouth.
‘YAH!!!’ Jessica laughed.
‘Guys, please we please eat? I’m starving.’ Eunhyuk whined plaintively.
‘NO ONE TOLD YOU NOT TO EAT!!!’ Everyone yelled. Chortling, everyone started to eat.
