Seishiro's fate

Major spoilers for Rainbow Bridge!

Poll Seishiro's fateI am curious. If it were me, it'd be a definete yes! Clamp are cruel, I mean Subaru is so depressed with his life, & then Seishiro dies on him too, just like Hokuto did. What kind of life does he live now (besides being a Sakurazukamori, he does in the anime, though I bet he does since it was said by Seishiro's ( Read more... )

There's not an option I agreed with.

... I'm just kind of amused at the belief that Subaru could "move on", or that the two of them could've been happy together.

I agree. It was a rocky and doomed romance. Kind of like Catherine and Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights).

Yeah, the idea of Sei/Sub and a happy ending is -- incongruous, to say the least.

I do think they might've been able to work, had Subaru ever called Sei on his bullshit or if Sei backed Subaru into a tight enough corner, but in that case, their definition of functionality would be drastically different from anyone else's. But it didn't happen, because their relationship is characterized by miscommunication and obsession without understanding, and you can't fix that stuff just by waving a magic wand (or a pen) and saying "Seishirou lives!"

Besides, they wouldn't be half as interesting if they weren't so fucked-up.

Not exactly happy, because Subaru can never truely be happy because Hokuto was killed by Seishiro, but he also loves Seishiro, meaning it's what his heart wants, but not his head.

Wow, that's a big opinion!

I partly agree with you on that you wouldn't change the ending, because it's what makes them so interesting to me & I'm not one for a soppy romance, but it's because of the ending that makes me want to say no & change it all, because it is so sad...

Same goes for your "if Hokuto wasn't killed", because Subaru can never truely be happy because of that, but he loves Seishiro too & it's what his heart wants, but not his head.

I also read a lot of fanfiction, a lot of them really quite beautiful & currently I am writing my own too & I am trying to keep it as canon & in character as possible, but it is difficult.

Agree with your whole reply. I wouldnt want to change the ending either. It's what make this pairing a classic in my book. That whole romantic-tragical ending where the one lover dies but the other carries on (and a plus for CLAMP cause they gave Seishirou's eye to Subaru).

And yes, what can we expect? CLAMP likes to kill their fans that way.

Hm. Well, a relationship built on obsession and half-lies? With one party both refusing to learn self-preservation and to see what's the plain truth in front of his eyes? There is really no hope for a "happy" ending for these two - the best you can have is both of them surviving, and Subaru continuing to hope for something more.

That said, it doesn't matter whether Seishirou confesses anything, with or without Subaru's confession first, because Subaru will never know whether it's sincere.

Even still, I voted #4, because Subaru without hope is dead, and "happiness" is all relative.

I see your point, there can't possibly be a happy ending, because too much as happened, but Subaru's heart wants it really, though he went with his head because it was the best way out in his opinion.

I suppose the last option is pretty pointless actually because you are right, he wouldn't believe him, unless possibly he told Subaru about the whole "My mother told me I would be killed by the one I love most" speech.

I think Subaru probably knew that Seishirou meant what he said after he left his eye with him, but then some people might just think that's he's over-obsess with him (his prey), which is is btw. xD

I hope in some little part of my heart that Sei and Sub have a happy ending somewhere - still a little sadistic, still a little messed up, but a happy ending. Maybe in Kobato's world. <3
