It was always happening when he was reading a particularly good book.

He could be sitting in the subway, in the bus, in a busy café or alone at home, it didn't really matter where he was because the result was the same every time. He would become so captivated by the words dancing on the pages, or the stories unfolding in front of his eyes and filling his brain, that the world around him would start to fade. Ambient sounds would turn into background noise before silence would step forward. The moving shapes and colors caught from the corner of his eyes would eventually just blend together until his focus was only on the book he was holding.

When he was in this trance-like state, a murder or a robbery could have happened in front of him and he wouldn't have been able to provide an appropriate reaction to the events because he wouldn't even have noticed them, or the commotion surrounding them.

He was often surprised when after closing his book, he would find an important amount of missed calls on his phone as, of course, the ringtone had not been able to reach his ears. When he was at his parents' house or visiting his older brother, he would always jump, startled when he would feel an hand on his shoulder, shaking him back to reality.

The first time Yonghwa met Seohyun, it was thanks to one of those reveries.

The book he had been reading was by a Japanese author called Miyuki Miyabe and the title was Kurosufaia. The story between a female pyrokinesist and a man from the police department's arson squad was so captivating that he had lost track of time, comfortable in the café's red armchair.

Yonghwa had stopped reading when he had felt his shoulder move. His eyes had blinked a few times as his spirit was returning to the present moment and his head had then turned to his right, gaze trailing up a pale arm until it met concerned brown eyes.

"I'm sorry, but we are closing. I've been trying to warn you for five minutes now, but you seemed really captivated by your book," she had said as she smiled lightly at him. She was probably pitying him.

Yonghwa had instantly felt bad for keeping her from doing her job and be able to get home early so he had rapidly thrown his book into his bag and had stood up, bowing apologetically to her. She had walked him to the door, and had unlocked the door to let him out. He had been the only customer left at that hour. She told him to have a safe trip home before returning to her last chores of the day.

It's only when the wind rose on his way home, that he realized he had forgotten his scarf in the café.
