It's Over. Finally.

Well, the old man is gone.  He cried a bit when the boy begged to go with him, other than that, I am pleased to say that he went as smoothly as he could manage and I'm grateful for that.  The kids are still looking for him.  I told DD I had to go to the doctor and her tearful reply was "But, you can't leave is here without PawPaw at home ( Read more... )

Don't take this wrong, but you are nuts. Your kids will not hate you. They won't understand it, because they are little kids, but they won't remember it either. It's hard now, but giving your kids the best home possible is the right thing for you to do, and happy parents is SO important to that. I can't imagine I need to tell you that.

Dump the guilt, as much as you can. You know you're doing the best thing for them.

Kirsten said it so much better and so much more bluntly than I would have but she is 1000000% right. Don't beat yourself up. You did the right thing for your marriage and for your children. You have strong shoulders but you don't have to (and shouldn't be expected to) carry all the weight of your family.

I know you're both right. I'm just guilt-ridden. It's in my nature. I wish I could make it stop, really. If I keep letting myself get so used up emotionally by my family, I'm going to end up on meds and I already don't take my insomnia pills.
