The image of their backs preserved in memory
Braig is where Xigbar’s story starts. An apprentice and a guard under Ansem the Wise, unknown to most, Braig is also in league with Master Xehanort. Master Xehanort uses him as a pawn (well, less of a pawn, more of a rook) in his plan to draw forth the darkness in Terra’s heart and turn him into the perfect vessel. Braig battles Terra once under the pretense of being Master Xehanort’s kidnapper. He ends up paying a high price in the form of one eye and a scar that’ll become all too iconic for the future number II of the organization.
After the battle Braig confronts Master Xehanort. The relationship between the two never becomes completely clear, but it seems they have some sort of deal; a deal that might lead to Braig obtaining his much desired Keyblade one day. And yet, the deal is not an even one. Braig seems to be genuinely afraid of Master Xehanort when the latter threatens him, quickly shifting gears to diffuse the sittuation. Despite his fear however, Braig also bitches at Master Xehanort like an annoyed teenage son would and later on, Master Xehanort shares part of his research with him, turning Braig into one of the sown seeds. It is unknown whether this is the catalyst towards Braig fully accepting the darkness, or whether Braig’s full acceptance of the darkness results Master Xehanort into telling him.
Either way, when Braig later confronts Aqua in battle, he has completely accepted the dark. As a result, his eye turns from brown to bright yellow and his ears become a bit pointier. This time, Braig does not lose any limbs in the process, but only aims to delay Aqua for long enough that Master Xehanort can take over Terra’s body to form Xehanort Terranort captain planet Xehanort. Once that deed is done, Braig jets out of there, because there is no honour in dying of all things.
Eventually, an amnesiac Xehanort shows up in Radiant Garden, where is quickly taken under Ansem’s care. Braig is actually the one who finds him and takes him under his wing. Under the impression that Xehanort still has his memories, Braig jokes around with him, tossing his arm around his shoulder, though he quickly backs off when he realizes it is not an act. With the knowledge he has of Master Xehanort’s previous research, he starts to nudge the other along towards the path that was laid out for him.
At this point, Xigbar’s history as set out in Kingdom Hearts II starts.
Braig is one of Ansem the wise’s six apprentices. Together they experiment with the darkness, though their experiments slowly take more gruesome forms, until Ansem calls a halt to them. He forces them to seal the labratory; however, there is no stopping the six who seem to have gotten a taste of power. After locking Ansem away in the dark realm, the apprentices under lead of Xehanort once again start up their experiments, though soon with a lethal end.
It is unclear what exactly happened, but it is clear that in their thirst for knowledge and power, they pushed themselves too far, too quick and ended up losing control. All six end up losing their hearts and Radiant Garden is destroyed. It is only their strong wills that allow the six apprentices to become nobodies and live on as shells of their former selves.
Together, they create the Organization, an organization of like-minded individuals with the public goal of getting their hearts back. Their numbers steadily increase until XIII, at which point Roxas joins, the nobody of Sora. At this time, Xigbar seems to act like the primary recruiter of Organization XIII, having brought in Marluxia and Larxene at the very least.
Recognizing the importance of having a link to the keyblade bearer under their control, Xemnas and Saix plot to create a clone of Sora/Roxas to use in case the actual one ends up being useless. With Vexen’s help, they create Xion, and while she is given the number XIV, she is never truly considered one of them. Xigbar was not told of this Replica plan, though he figured it out himself by spying and putting some things together.
At this point, Castle Oblivion happens, cutting their numbers down to half. Xion and Roxas thrive for one year, before the balance between them is shattered as Xion siphons more and more of Roxas’ strength. At this time, Xigbar starts seeing Xion as Ven, the boy he knew ten years ago. Eventually, Xion sacrifises herself. As her essence fuses with Roxas, she completely stops to exist, causing everyone to lose their memories of her, Xigbar included.
Roxas betrays the organization and becomes one with Sora again. Axel turns traitor in an attempt to get Roxas back. The organization is down to six members.
The first time Xigbar meets Sora face to face is at Hollow Bastion, though Xigbar never removes his hood. The six remaining members of the organization confront the keyblade hero, and Xigbar sticks around a bit longer to tease him. He tells Sora he is not half the hero the others were (refering to Terra, Aqua and Ven) and when Sora glares at him, he gives him the same compliment he once gave Ven, more than ten years ago.
The next time Xigbar and Sora meet is at the Land of Dragons. Sora mistakes Xigbar for Riku and Xigbar, finally taking off his hood, tells him he has never heard of him. Sora is ready for battle, but Xigbar instead summons a bunch of sniper nobodies before running off. Still no honour in dying.
Xigbar’s final appearance is in his final fight against Sora. As Sora advances through The World That Never Was, the remaining members of the organization challenge him one by one. Xigbar challenges Sora in The Hall of Empty Melodies, first confusing the boy before the most annoying frustrating battle. However even when Sora has beaten him, Xigbar refuses to clarify his words, instead prefering to fade into nothing with a snarky comment.
[ Personality ] :
Some people have a card up their sleeves; Xigbar has two decks and half a checkers set up his, just in case.
Xigbar is the laid back seeming sort; always ready for a joke, a snarky comment or some relaxation. On the surface, he doesn’t seem to take his duties too serious and it is said that through his generally friendly ways he gets/got along with nearly everybody in the organization. He has a tendency towards snarky, cocky jokes, and usually is seen with a wide grin on his face, always amused at something or another. He seems to be extra fond of the younger members of the organization, giving both Roxas and Xion nicknames, and while accompanying them on a mission he is patient, if not slightly snarky. He even puts up with Demyx following him around, who is considered a noisy whiner by most of the organization. In fact, he seems to care enough about Demyx to directly give him orders about his missions and write them down (yes, that is where Demyx got his cue card from) in case he forgets. All in all, he appears to be the cool, old uncle of the organization. Who doesn’t care about personal space. In fact, he is gonna lean on you now, kay?
Beneath the surface, there is a lot more though. Like all of them, Xigbar is a nobody, which means he lacks true emotions. All he does is just an act, based on how he acted when he still had a heart. Judging by his words and actions, Xigbar honestly considers himself emotionless and he is one of the few members that never ‘display’ any negative emotions (such as fear) even until the very end. Any acts of friendliness are just a pretence, something which is clear from the fact that Xigbar does not hesitate to spy and eavesdrop on his fellow members, using this ill-gotten information to his personal advantage. He is a smart man, smarter than he might look at first glance, and according to Zexion, since his days as an apprentice Xigbar has always looked down on everybody around him. Everybody except one person: Xehanort/Xemnas. As said, Xigbar is smart, but he is not the book-smart kind of person. Don't expect him to memorize a list of things or painstakingly comb through an old book. Xigbar is the type to depend on his instinct and experience for his intelligence, making him a difficult, hard to anticipate opponent. Which is especially clear when you fight him. He teleports around like a jackrabbit on speed, teases you, and cockily twirls his guns when reloading. Yeah. Have fun with that one.
As friendly and prone to joking as he seems at first glance, Xigbar is a skilled manipulator, using his intelligence to make him tons more dangerous than he might appear at first. He already accepted the darkness in his heart and learned to control it when he was still human, and ten years since then have only honed his skills and interest further. Like the other five original members, he was an apprentice of Ansem the Wise; however unlike the others (apart from Xehanort in a way) he was also in cahoots with Master Xehanort and thus knows most if not all of his research. In fact, the organization was created through Xigbar wanting to carry out the old Master’s research, nudging along Xehanort on the path that was set for him. And as much knowledge as he has, Xigbar is the type never to show the hand of cards he has been dealt with. He might drop hints or suggestions here and there, but at the end of the day, nobody really knows what goes on in that old skull of his.
Not that many people will really realize he knows this much. All they will see is that cooky old man with the funny accent that takes walks on the ceiling.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
- Control of darkness; ability to create dark corridors.
- Master of the element Gravity. Which is why he walks on the ceiling.
- Despite only having one eye, Xigbar is a seasoned marksman with both hand guns and a sniper rifle. He uses his favoured arrow guns. And due to his control of gravity et all, he can make his projectile bounce around until they find their target.
- Stat wise, Xigbar is quick and agile but not as strong as some other members of the organisation. That is why he will fight from a distance rather than getting up close.
- Other than that, he can be killed like anyone else. Depending on who of the Kingdom Hearts kiddies get in, he'll have a sizeable amount of enemies ready for him right from the start.
- He really likes gossip, actually.
- He can get a little testy when other people call him old? He wrestled Demyx for it. But he will cheerfully use it himself if he thinks it will benefit him.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
- He is totally a Vonnegut fan? He uses 'so it goes'!
- Xigbar is the one who has recruited various members into the organization (Marluxia and Larxene are confirmed. Maybe Luxord and Demyx as well.) So yeah, he is a good smooth talker.
[ Sample ] :
Xigbar rolled his shoulders, cracking his neck with a harsh snap, as he surveyed the world beneath him. Underneath him, his feet were separated from the force of tons of ocean water by an odd type of barrier. Reminded him a little of the barriers that kept the worlds separated. Except for the one itty bitty little detail where those barriers couldn't keep him contained. Whereas this one... could apparently? Very interesting. Spiffy. He wanted one for back home. It'd keep people outta his room.
Well then, should he go meet some of the locals? Recon missions were usually Demyx's thing (well, not anymore; squirt bit it a while back hadn't he? Ah well.) but Xigbar as a master of sneaking around after all.
With a little shove, he pushed away from the top of the barrier, letting himself drop down without care. He didn't knew fear, after all. Not anymore. And even if he had, he had the fullest of confidence in his own powers. Shifting the gravity subtly, he slowed his descent, flipping around before smoothly landing on his feet, looking none the worse for the wear. Heights were just Xigbar's thing, you know?
Shaking out his ponytail, Xigbar then plastered an easy, friendly grin on his face. He had no doubt people here were as easily led astray as all the other people he had met. Darkness. Light. It was all there in people's hearts, wasn't it? Slumping his shoulders a little, he relaxed, sauntering off at leisure, raising a hand at the first person he saw. "Heya, dude. How about telling an old man about this place? Looks like a fish bowl."
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : None. Cal dear already answered my nobody/heartless question.
