Album of the Year: Apply Some Pressure - Maximo Park

This was a tough choice. Bloc Party's Silent Alarm is a more complex album, and a more accomplished one. Art Brut's Bang Bang Rock & Roll made a late surge in the last few weeks, thanks to sheer exuberance. But Apply Some Pressure was the album I listened to the most, and it is kickass. Overall, it was a good musical year, though it would be hard to know that by listening to the radio.
Song of the Year: Munich - Editors

If Editor's entire album was as good as this song, it would certianly be the album of the year. But it really wasn't. Still, the song is awesome.

TV drama of the Year: Grey's Anatomy

I said it in my post about the Globes. Grey's Anatomy is a sophomore champ. Good first season, terrific second one. And I hate ER, so it's not like I'm generally a fan of the hospital series genre. It isn't as frustrating as Lost, and I'm amvialent about Veronica Mars' second season. So there it is.

TV comedy of the Year: How I Met Your Mother

Innovation is a good thing. I like innovative comedied. But the completely non-innovative HIMYM is FUNNY. And Barney is just an awesome character. Interestingly, both my top scripted shows include former teen stars (Patrick Dempsey in Grey's, Neil Patrick Harris in Mother) who finally found a home, and who seem so much better than they were back in the day. Entourage was a close second, but a wildly uneven cast made sure it didn't win.

Reality Show of the year: Survivor

Amazing Race forfeits due to the crappy Family edition, and Beauty and the Geek only had six episodes or so. Thus, the two Seasons Of Stephenie win this quite easily.

Genre Show of the Year: Doctor Who

Really, no one is more surprised than I am at how awesome the Doctor is, and how much I love the show. Terrific writing, excellent acting. And it doesn't look like crap. From Dalek to Christmas Invasion, this was just nonstop awesomeness.

Movie of the Year: Batman Begins

It's the fanboy movie of the year, for sure. But it was also the most enjoyable film of the year for me. Howl's Moving Castle was excellent, The Constant Gardener was moving and powerful, but I'm a geek. So Batman it is.

SF Novel of the Year: Spin by Robert Charles Wilson

Yes, I am completely biased. I translated it. But I also think it is a terrific novel. Really the total package here, as it is both a wonderful story about people and a mind blowing story of ideas. I'm voting for this in the Hugos, unless something blows my mind to the extent that search parties will have to look for little bits of Didi brain parts to put it back together.

Fantasy Novel of the Year: A Feast for Crows by George RR Martin

Yes, it was a bit of a placeholder novel. Indeed, not that much happened. Absolutely, there was WAAAAAY too much Cersei. But there was terrific stuff in Dorne, and the three Arya chapters were excellent, and well... what can I say? I am George Martin's bitch.

YA Novel of the Year: Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

Here's a nice thing: You meet a guy at a con. He seems like a nice guy. You talk briefly. He and his wife have their agent send you their novels, and both are just terrific. Peeps is one of the best, smartest, funnest takes on Vampires ever, and it is a science fiction novel. Justine's book Magic or Madness was also awesome.
