When I was in college I got sleep paralysis often. The best thing to do is try to relax and go back to sleep. If you fight it too much, you can injure yourself.
Quite true. The symptoms are really in line for someone having that kind of experience. Given what REM sleep does, being half awake during it could be terrifying depending on whats "now showing" inside your head.
Ex: during this last one a leg of my fursuit was hanging off the top bunk. My brain turned it into the black silhouette of a floating skull with spine attached. I slowly awoke staring at the same spot, and was pretty un-nerved realizing that I was now fully awake but the object/shape was still there, and I couldn't move.
Of course it could never be my wolfy-self tied down by a harem of female wolves with a happy ending. Nope, instead I get skulls. Wonderful.
