♛ CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Riku
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Ability: Riku's powers are fueled by darkness. He gets his energy from being within range of a person's shadow. When his weapon, a "keyblade" known as Way to Dawn has absorbed enough darkness, it can emit a dark aura that can harm his opponent. The aura also has a side effect- it can haze his opponent's vision for 1-3 minutes. Way to Dawn also can be used in battle like a regular sword for striking and slashing.
Position: 4th year student

hereHistory: Riku originated from Mirrodon, Cross. He grew up with his mother (his father's whereabouts were/are unknown) in a poor area tainted with drugs, sex, and violence. Riku often found himself getting involved in dozens of fights weekly due to his overly-arrogant nature. He also slowly gained shoplifting habits; when his mother was at work, Riku would steal bread, meat, and other various food items from markets to provide food for himself and his mother so they would save money. His mother, though aware of his violent activities, did not know about his shoplifting tendencies. Though he was surrounded by violence as a child, it's those experiences that helped him grow physically stronger.
He discovered his abilities right after he and his mom were able to move to Cyril. The environment was entirely different- people were friendlier, the air was fresher, and there wasn't much poverty. It was... different, and it didn't take him too long to grow accustomed to his new surroundings. However, because of Riku's prior experiences in Mirrodon, he became a bully during his elementary days. Ironically, it was his rash behavior that led him to meet two of his closest friends, Sora and Kairi. During a fight he had with Sora, Riku discovered his ability to summon his Way to Dawn keyblade. It came as a great shock to both him, Sora, and Kairi (who was spectating) that he had such a power; in the end, it intrigued Sora to the extent where he strangely wanted to get to know Riku more. The three of them became an inseparable trio since then. Riku also went to school with Demyx- one of Riku's past targets who fell victim to his teasing.
Later in time his mother approached him with a new opportunity to start enhancing his powers. So Riku'd been able to summon Way to Dawn. Did he really need anything else? His mom would have definitely given a firm "yes" to that question, as she felt that her son had so much more potential to grow stronger. She broke the news to Riku that a man named Ansem had seen him use his talents while Riku had battled with Sora. Ansem was also familiar with wielding darkness- an expert at that, and he grew interested in helping Riku further develop his powers upon request from Riku's mother.
Initially Riku really didn't want to go to practice sessions afterschool. He really didn't feel like working on growing stronger with someone else; he felt as though he really didn't need the help and that he'd be able to improve on his own. All he really needed to do was get strong enough to put up a good match against others. However he found that Ansem's words of advice and techniques with wielding darkness really did help Riku expand his knowledge of his powers, and he soon found a ways to gain more power. He also discovered his keyblade's potential to blast his opponent with a dark aura, which was definitely something that he'd learn to use to his advantage.
Soon Riku started to notice something a bit alarming. As he grew stronger, Ansem wanted to work with him more and more. Even after his mom had requested to remove Riku from lessons, Ansem insisted on keeping him there because he claimed that "there was still more that Riku had to learn." Ironically, he more and more he trained, the weaker and weaker he felt and the less and less Ansem held lessons with him. Riku tried to decipher Ansem's reasoning. It was later evident that Ansem had somehow done something with Riku's powers as he was caught by the police the next day for robbing a book store, claiming that it was "part of his mission". This left Riku dumbfounded and baffled for a long while; it was evident that Ansem's intentions weren't all that great after Riku discovered that he could no longer perform the aura technique he learned earlier. He came to the conclusion that Ansem had pretty much used Riku to make himself stronger. So this is what being used felt like.
With that in mind, Riku struggled for a while as he tried to figure out whether exercising his powers was really worth it in the long run. The only other person who shared the same element as him was arrested; Riku was honestly done with living a criminal-like lifestyle. He pondered on what he was capable of- how powerful he would get- how it could hurt those around him.
It was then when Riku turned to Estrasia Academy to help him find a place for his powers. After suffering from much anticipation, the Academy recognized his potential and sent him a letter of acceptance. This marked the beginning of his beginning of his transformation as Riku realized that overpowering people wasn't everything, and that he would fight for the sake of protecting himself and others rather than to prove that he's the best among many.
Personality: Riku has shown remarkable development, going from a stuck-up little kid to a young man with more rationale and better judgment. He's sure of himself and confident in his abilities, physically and mentally. He knows that he can hold his ground and defend himself when it's appropriate due to the mass amounts of training Riku put himself through since he was young. He's more of a deep thinker now as opposed to how he was before, and takes more time to analyze situations instead of acting on instinct and jumping right into something that might put him in a horrible situation. Riku has also grown to be more self-directed and is now inspired to work harder to surpass his own limits as opposed to those of others.
This doesn't mean that he's perfect; he's far from it. Others normally won't notice, but Riku constantly sees his bigger mistakes as failures rather than experiences to learn from. He'll think lowly of himself when he reflects on these happenings, especially when it comes to his ability to protect people whom he undoubtedly cares about. On some occurrences, he'll reflect back on something from the past that's cringe-worthy; this will make him falter a bit in his path to work towards a brighter future. This isn't to say that he won't ever move on from these types of situations however, it just takes him a little more time to forgive himself and tell himself that things will improve. Sometimes his competitive nature tends to kick in as well. Though he's less focused on beating others, he really does hate to lose, and it does damage his ego a bit when he falls.
On the brighter side, Riku's shining aspect is his sociability. He isn't one to trust others easily, but this doesn't stop him from opening up to other people. He's actually sort of a social butterfly, for he's able to communicate and strike good conversations with different varieties of people. He won't shy away from strangers and is willing to assist others if the task isn't anything too difficult or personal. He's the type of person who a lot of people don't mind having as company due to his good-hearted nature.
If you happen to become one of Riku's friends, you'll normally find that in the end, he won't let you down. He'll always give his full support to the people who really matter, whether it seems like it or not. Sometimes it'll feel as though he's on your side and he'll be there to back you up when you have your mind set on something. On the other hand, he'll also give off the impression that he's betraying you and going against you in certain situations. Regardless of what his actions seem to be expressing, Riku always does what he feel would be best for you. He's someone who you can definitely confide with.
♜ SAMPLES
Third Person Sample: It wasn't so bad.
Riku was always up for venturing out into the universe beyond the land he'd been locked up in since birth- not that he currently had any problems with staying in Cyril of course, but nonetheless he just needed to get out. This was where Estrasia came in. At first he was hesitant about living somewhere foreign, only because he had a more-than-longing feeling to stuff Sora and Kairi into his suitcase and sneak them into the academy with him. But of course this was only Riku wishing for the impossible; once he came to terms with the fact that the three of them were bound to wind up traveling down different roads one day, he felt a little better about leaving. At least he'd be able to expand his boundaries and possibly open a door to a new lifestyle with his powers.
He was only there for a few days, much like all of the other first year students in the classroom. It wasn't too boring, and saying it was okay would have been an understatement. Life was a little more interesting to say the least; he realized that a lot of his classmates weren't the same everyday Average Joe kids you'd meet anywhere. Some of them differed from the stereotype, whether they be extremely skeptical and paranoid or complete psychopaths.
It was the fourth day of life at Estrasia. He was already intrigued by the competitive natures of the other students; that alone fueled him to work a little harder. He was interested to see what his peers had to offer, and what he'd potentially be up against.
First Person Sample: [Sitting on a bench near the fountain, Riku's pretty fixated on the book he's reading. And he's wearing ~*reading glasses*~. You may notice the bizarre facial expressions he's making. Upon closer inspection, well, he's reading nothing other than the famous vegetarian-vampire romance novel Twilight. Because really, why does Kairi think this shit is so cash. ]]
Sparkling vampires? Seriously? This is the new thing everyone's so obsessed over?
