I'm back!

I just got back from two weeks of fence post hole digging, gate hanging, dead tree cutting up and assorted other things on my vacation. I think my parents idea of vacation and mine differ wildly, but we got it done and still had some time for the important things like naps and swimming.

I've got 500+ emails, two weeks of fb which I won't even try ( Read more... )

Well, that's certainly an active vacation...

The picture reminds me of the apartment Whuffle and I shared before we bought our house. There was a pine tree in the back with a wild concord grape vine curling up it. Most the grapes ended up well beyond human reach, but the birds would happily eat the grapes and spit the pits out on the back porch. We generally referred to the apartment with variations on "Grape tree arbor."

They're sweet! I was surprised, I'd always heard that muscadines were bitter. Their skin was like rubber, but the inside was really sweet and tangy at the same time. There's also a Sassafrass tree we found, they have neatest looking berries. They look like olives almost but with red stems.

It's a really neat property.

I've tried getting sassafras to grow at home. They are quite happy in New England, but are apparently harder to get started than I'd anticipated.

My mom has big plans. She wants to plant every kind of fruit tree and bush that will grow in that climate with babying. She said she doesn't want to be piling hay around something every fall but she's found several different variety of blueberry that will live happily and cross pollinate each other so I think this spring we're going to be digging *lots* of little holes.

WB!

Sounds more like you're happy the vacation is over. On the other hand you could spend some time with your family:)

500+ e-mails? Woot? - Guess it's a good thing I have no FB.
