This pisses me off.

When our Government knocks back the same kind of progressive legislation that South Africa's Cabinet passes (South Africa, that historically liberal-leaning beacon of civil and humanitarian rights), I can't help but wonder why it is that same-sex unions pose such a bloody threat to the Institution Of Marriage (TM). Do you know where churches get this money from? I thought their only source of income was donations.

CD and DVD sales and donations, according to Brian Houston, one of the founders of Hillsong.

Of course with a well-funded congregation like that in the Hills district, the donations alone can be pretty sizable - especially when you factor in the upwardly-mobile professionals who believe in Hillsong's quite admirable "the more you give, the more you get" message of generosity. And the CD sale revenue has been enormous.

Houston claims $40 million or so in revenue for the 04-05 year, in that interview. That's a hell of a lot of charitable projects.

I mention Hillsong since they're the fastest growing and (arguably) one of the most influential church groups in Australia today. Any organisation that can get the Federal leaders of both Government and Opposition to their conferences is obviously influential.

But, uh, that's kind of off-topic. :)

Hillsong is like the Benny Hinn group of Australia right? I hate those kind of people.

But does HIllsong group represent the church groups of Australia, or is it only one of the many church groups of Australia that have a say?

Easy... cause the Governer General is picked by the prime minister/goverment of the time. The queen simply rubber stamps the choise. So ole Howard has a supporter in "top office" that will always rumber stamp what ever he wants. It's known that the GG is a homophobic right wing bastard.
