A fannish mishmash
Three unpopular opinions (because I can't think of ten that haven't been done better elsewhere...)
1. I am indifferent to the actors who play characters I slash. Really. Don't want to meet them, no matter how nice they may be. Don't mind if they're jerks. Don't care who they date. Don't even mind if they're dead, as long as they took care of my slashy movie/TV needs before they went. This is not to say that I don't have an affection for many actors, follow their work, and would be sad if they died, etc., or that I don't have an appreciation for their talent. But it's characters that fascinate me. Mulder is interesting. Duchovny is not.
2. Both Snape and Sirius are immature bastards, both have bad hair, and both are sexy as all hell.
3. I really enjoy some of the horribly spelled, unrealistically plotted, wildly OOC stories on ff.net. Either the author has still managed to hit my kink, or they have something interesting to say/are doing something that's fun to read despite all the problems.

I have no idea quite what I did to deserve all the wonderful, thoughtful feedback you guys sent for my little teeny fic, but I am insanely and desperately grateful for it, and I'm having the best time answering it. You have no idea how much it matters, really you don't. Thank you!
See that pretty, pretty Marauders-era Sirius by seviet in my icon, all intent on his book and with his hair so fetchingly in his eyes? He was studying in my favorite coffeehouse this morning, at a table by himself, with his wire-rimmed glasses laid to one side and wearing a sweater that would have looked perfect over a Gryffindor tie. Guh. I now feel officially like a dirty old middle-aged chick. Rrrrowr.
And some pointers:
- cathexys has a neat discussion on "conduit" fics here, some of which were listed on Telanu's "fics that get you hot" thread, threesomes where two men make love to one another with a woman as conduit/facilitator.
- I ran across this Sirius/Neville story, "The Stranger in the Tower", by Violet Wild Flower, when ntamara recced it, and given the pairing, I approached it with some doubt. But I liked it quite a bit! Clear competent writing, an appealing Neville, an interesting Sirius and a premise which I thought worked quite nicely. An enjoyable read. Note the PG-13 up there. This is a slash story, but it's not smut. Warning: Neville is underage.
- For a very different take on Sirius/Neville, try isolde9's drabble, done for the OOC challenge for Knockturnal Ruins' drabble night here. The other three drabbles she has there are quite neat as well.
- And one more short Neville piece, written for hpsquick100's plantslash challenge, by _hannelore. Heh. Very cleverly done.
- Go here to read prillalar's contrelamontre piece for this morning. Funny, smart, and a satisfying, complete story even though she wrote it timed. And she did it *without* going over 70 minutes! It's Stargate, Jack/Thor, but you don't need to know Stargate at all well to appreciate it.
ETA: I almost forgot the Wenselydale cheese. aleph_0 recommended this in the international grocery thread a while back, and it's sooooo good! It's kind of like feta, but harder, and kind of like cheddar, but softer, and not quite like either in taste. But mmm, yummy! We'll definitely buy this again. Now if we can only find some Branston pickle, we'll be all set.
