I've had a vision

I've been toying with this programming project, talking to this person and that person. Most have disagreed with my original plan. A tabletop gaming framework to automate most of the system/mechanics/math involved in TT gaming these days. My goal was to use a completely object-oriented design, built in Java. Many have disparaged Java, I ( Read more... )

Like many others I think you're a bit crazy to program things in Java. But go with it if you must.

But the idea of making a language to handle games isn't new. I'd recommend checking out the vassal engine, which is an engine for handling board games. It'll probably make you happy to know that the vassal engine is also written in java (since it is intended to be web-based which is the only real use for java)

I've run this over in my head a dozen times, the vision I have is written in Java. Frankly, I think its rough start has given it a bad rap, its improved significantly. It works well for my design, as its meant to heavily use inheritance and polymorphism, and focuses object oriented methodologies.

Yea also there's the [insert computer jargon here] to consider. I mean in the past few years there's been huge advancements in [insert more computer related stuff here]. But the dream is pretty neat. I definitely think you should go with it. I mean where would we be if [insert significant and/or relevant historical figure here] didn't follow his dream and [insert aforementioned related significant historical event/discovery/creation here]. Either way it should be fun making it! You know what they say, "[insert relevant common cliche proverb here]"
Good luck!
