My vote goes for the Saturday of Halloween. Your party will undoubtedly be late enough so the kiddies will already be done with their rounds, so no one will miss getting the opportunity to open the door. As far as other Halloween events, people love to party hop, there is just a festive air to the day of-- in my opinion, it would be perfect.
