[ The Attack to the Sky Barrier ]
At 8pm a lone girl stood at the beach staring up at the sky. She was in perfect position, directly below the targeted sky barrier in the North. She was nervous and anxious... And something inside her said this isn't going to end well.
But it was too late to back out now.
An incantation was spoken softly and black, devil-like wings appeared on her back. A few minutes remained before the synchronized attack was to begin. She flew to the heavens, singing a mantra as she went.
Heavenly skies, open thy gates,
Shower them with thine flame;
For You alone hold our fates,
Onward destruction, Meteor Rain.
At the appointed time of 8:21:08pm, Kuromi shoots several small meteors into the air in a circular motion before directing them all to the point she was instructed to attack.
She had expected an explosion from that point and raised a shield the way Harry Dresden had taught her.
But who knew that a bolt of lightning would hit her?
She would have screamed in pain if she could, but the pain was too much to express in words. She lost her wings and fell from the sky; struggling to keep her consciousness from leaving her, she knew there was only a few seconds before she hit the ground.
A small miracle saved her. She used her last bit of magic to make a shield before she hit the ground.
She lay on the white sand for a few moments before she dared to move. She felt no broken bones, but she was in pain. Several burns on her arms and legs were evident, but still she struggled to get up.
Only one thing was on her mind. "Himemiya-san..."
[ Underground Rescue ]
She rushes to the underground and found the girl, barely conscious. She doesn't bother introducing herself to Chikane and helps her up. The underground was not the place to linger for too long, especially when you are weak or bleeding. Kuromi finds the nearest exit, Chikane leaning heavily on her.
"Don't talk for now... We have to get you home."
Kuromi took her time to orient herself with her surroundings. Finally, she headed towards Chikane's and Himeko's apartment, where Himeko anxiously waited. She knocks on the door and saw Himeko. She tried to smile, but could not find herself to do so.
Himeko panicked at the sight of them... at least, that was how Kuromi felt. She couldn't hear her words because she realized... the explosion from the barriers was so severe that it had temporarily rendered her deaf. She helps Chikane to bed, and whispers...
"I'm sorry I got you involved in this... Please forgive me."
And without another word, she disappears out the window, back to the city grounds.
[ The Present ]
She struggled just to walk in her condition, but perhaps the shock was now getting to her. She found herself by the fountain and felt she could no longer get home... not without help.
But to whom would she ask for help?
Hesitantly, she calls Jun on her cellphone, which was surprisingly still working.
"Jun-kun..." she said. "I think... I need help."
