My thoughts on the Hurricane.... Well I have many, but what I would like to say mostly, is that I am really sick of everyone blaming the federal government and president Bush. I am amazed that the major networks are too afraid to pick up on the truth of the federal response and lack thereof. I found a really good story today that basically sums up ( Read more... )

Everything is a gray area. But its a strong counterpoint to what appears to be about the only point being picked up by the networks. KI suppose being very critical of welfare and the welfare state, colors my opinion to a degree.

Yes most people haven't been stating the gray area, and in this case people failed at different levels and different levels of govt sell themselves as being able to do different things.
The welfare state stuff though is harsh, I don't even think the US qualifies as a welfare state :P Although I for one really enjoy the subsidized education :D

While I'll agree that the situation in New Orleans reflects the poor charecter of it's citizens, it's totally idiotic to suggest that anyone on the state or national level didn't know it was going to happen in an area so heavily populated by poor black families (racist or not, we all know it's true ( ... )

I agree with your thoughts on the 9/11-Katrina point.

I'm sick of "Wealthy America" using this to tie them together. It's one thing for people to say: "First 9/11, and now this. We really need to help each other out and etc etc etc..."

...but to have a fundraiser in New York, and move a football game where one of the teams just happens to be from New Orleans to said city in order to tie the two together to persuade people to give money is just sick.

I'm glad they did a telethon, but this game should have been played on a neutral sight (Houston, Atlanta, Baton Rogue (at LSU or another college in the state)...or maybe even at Canton Ohio...sight of the Hall of Fame.

Hey Joanie - glad to see you are more or less OK. I tried calling you when we were on the road touring but your cell phone service was cut off. How is everything, how are you ( ... )

My phone service has been funky ever since the evacuation orders started going out. It's working okay (like, sometimes) though. Now we're anticipating getting some tropical storm action here in Ft. Worth from Rita, but it's pretty bleak with this one too -- someone's shit is going to get fucked up, and the surge waters from lake pontchartrain and the Miss. river will probably damage the now-infamous New Orleans levees even more ( ... )
