You do know that mine wasn't all that surprising to me right? Something about all those hours taking Arabic back at UGA probably influenced me a bit. The overall background premise of Islam mostly fits my thoughts on the divine and such. The problem is that "The Recitation" is left to the interpretation of each believer, and it looks like a few charismatic nut cases got ahold of boo coo influence. No one seems to be countering the nuts, so it appaears (and I really do initially behave as if) they're all nvts.
BTW, if you missed House from Tuesday, it's worth a viewing. The scoreboard of "House vs God" was worth it. Just remember, "The tie goes to the mortal".
Actually, I had the impression you were somewhat surprised by it. I think Islam, in and of itself, is as good a religion as any of them out there. The trouble is that its modern incarnation has a fascist bent to it and the average follower, while he/she may not subscribe to it, tends to allow it to take place
