I will do any little bit I can that might help this sad situation. I work in emergency services so when I hear firsthand about this sort of thing happening, I take it extra personally.

Let me tell you what made me NUTS....when the hurricane came...people that lived in housing...no electricity or ANYTHING. And I dont mean for a day or two, I mean a solid week and longer. They robbed a water delivery man just because they needed water. FEMA? pfft they got sent to the richer areas. They didnt hurt the man but they said 'we have babies and no water'. The delivery man wasnt mad, said he would have outright given them all the water on his truck if they asked.

Our mayor is a joke. All those people in public housing that had no food, water, or lights...and still going to make them pay rent and say they'd be put out if they didnt pay it. What????????

I raised hell and we all helped as many folks as we could.

But I shared the petition on facebook as well ;)

That's a truly disgusting state of affairs, isn't it?

Not on the same scale of course, but our recently elected conservative (of course) federal government decided to narrow the criteria for disaster relief payments on the 18th October just passed.

The fires started on 16th and really took off over the 17th and night of the 18th.

They narrowed the criteria so that people cut off from returning to their homes, or those without water or electricity couldn't get payments, and on the day it became obvious we were in for a long haul and many people would be in that position.

Sucks, doesn't it?
