Australia Day Long Weekend - STRAYA MATE!

Jan 24, 2015 17:13

Monday, 26th January is our national holiday, so in honour of it, I thought I'd do a few posts over the coming days concerning things Australian.

Here's a humorous music vid that's gone viral over here in the last couple of days - hope you enjoy it!

I do want to live there! How cool is that, to have a big rock where there's nothing at all?
I lol'd at that.
I hope Monday is an awesome day for you!

Thank you, m'dear!

That's my favourite line in it too - I had a good laugh at it! It's a good description of Uluru - I was lucky enough to spend nearly two months out there and it truly is miles and miles of...well... miles! I loved it!

The red centre of Australia is a truly magical place.

Have you been to Karijini National Park in the Pilbara? You must if you find central Australia wonderful. The MacDonnell Ranges are as much as I've seen in Centralia but Karijini is spectacular. If you can, add it to the bucket list. It is my favourite place in Australia outside of home.

It's already on my bucket list! I've wanted to go there for years!

Ningaloo is another one.

I've travelled Australia an awful lot, but it's such a big place I still have quite an extensive list of destinations. It's just so damned expensive to travel around Oz! I was lucky in that most of my travels were funded by my line of work, with enough free time to enjoy my travels.

WA is the one state I haven't had a chance to see much of, worst luck!

Oh my God! What lol's! I really respect Adam Hills as both a person and a comedian. I no longer appreciate watching comedy given not everyone can do it well consistently but he is like another of my favourite comedians, Adam Spencer (my all-time favourite). Classy humour without resorting to crassness and sex jokes. It makes for refreshing viewing. His Aussie language routine was very funny. And it is so true, I remember reading something that Jeremy Clarkson said about his daughter watching Neighbours and blaming the upwards inflection on the end of her sentences on the Australian accent ( ... )

Thanks, ranger - I'll be hoping for a nice day so we can fire up the barbie (if not, I'll do the normal stand-by for us and roast a chook), play some garbage bin cricket in the park behind us and generally have a nice, laid back time, then I'll sit on my back verandah and watch the wallaroos (the regulars), perhaps some greys, and maybe even a wallaby or two if we're lucky, come down from the ridge for a munch in the park in the evening while the kookaburras all greet each other as they come home to the gums on the ridge... apart from the cricket, a pretty typical evening for me here (lucky bugger, aren't I?).

You've got to admit, you can't get much more Aussie than that!

Yesterday was stormy, but it looks as though it's clearing enough that we should get a dry one tomorrow.

Hope you have a great time, too!

Oh! and don't forget the fairy bread - I'll be whacking up a batch or two - it's always appreciated!
