I'd submit a request anyways. I did, and at no point did they ask about my employment status. I submitted for one under Developer.

And as long as you don't bring it into work, I don't think your employer has any right to protest.

Fair enough. I don't know what policies they have about this sort of thing.

I don't either but as competitive as the company is, I could imagine that simply asking about the policy might be as bad as violating it accidentally.
