I have a pattern with internet ‘relationships’, I’ve noticed, at least the people I let see past the bullshit and the persona and the defenses, and I’m not sure if this is just me or the internet in general, but they usually tend to grow really quick, then die off just as quicklyThe problem is that it's extremely easy to open up to someone when there are monitor screens between you. Less chance of getting really hurt when you can't even see the person, so you're more risky in what you show and what you say. This leads to a perceived closeness that doesn't hold up on closer inspection, which in a way is unfortunate. And since we're viewing each other through filters, only seeing what the other chooses to show, we get a very skewed image of that person. (If you meet in person, that image gets tarnished ( ... )
