A lot of people like Ron Paul because he advocates the elimination of income taxes and the state of the IRS altogether. A lot of people flock to his support by hearing these things, but eliminating the IRS and taxes is far easier said than done. If successful, it would mean the loss of tens of thousands of jobs, not just in the government sector ( Read more... )

My problem with Ron Paul, in two sentences:

He expects to move a $7 trillion economy to the gold standard. There is only $3 trillion worth of gold on the planet.

Does. Not. Compute.

However: The tax code must be simplified. Period. It's costing billions of dollars -- going to these specialized companies, mostly. Compare the loss of jobs to the loss of manufacturing jobs. Yeah, lot of people out of work. But the system is broken, and far more people are screwed by the current system than would be screwed if we moved to the Fair Tax.

Needs of the many.

I'm for the abolition of federal income tax and the IRS. Yes, people will lose their jobs, but I'm sure that anyone smart enough to understand our current convoluted tax code will have no trouble finding a job in another sector. Like, say, as a theoretical physicist ( ... )
