Apparently the people who own the rights to Buffy are planning on making a new version of Buffy The Vampire Slayer for television, or possibly a new movie

Epic fucking fail. I'm re-watching the series as I type this (near the end of Season 4) and that's bullshit. They redid Star Trek because they didn't want all the teenagers to always remember the series as a campy old show from before they were born.
Mebbe I'm just not a fan.januxMay 26 2009, 23:10:47 UTC
Trek was redone well; I dunno that Buffy was done all that well in the first place. Some of it was at Whedon's feet; I've seen almost every episode and there's a lot in it that was just meh*. The acting was pretty bad, so please no more Sarah Michelle Gellar.
* Almost the entire plot that dealt with Angel, most of Glory, the retcon to include a tween sister for Buffy, "Adam" and that Riley dude that couldn't act, lesbian fanservice and Willow eventually becoming so bad ass for all the little confused teen girls, etc. A lot of it was really cool to watch the first time around (okay the Angel thing was always stupid), but I can't stand it now.
I could never get into Buffy. I watched a specific few episodes on... I think it was Chrissie's recommendation... Supposedly cream of the crop stuff, but it still left me groaning. Although Fillion as an evil preacher was pretty awesome.
If you think in terms of years from the end of the show, yeah, there isn't much of a new generation. If you think in terms of the beginning of the show though, it's been what, 15 years? More? There are probably a lot of people out there who didn't watch the show the first time around because it was already 5 seasons in when they first saw it, and the owners are probably including that group in their "new generation" statement.
