IMO, the Averatec seems alot more appealing, I think you'd like it more, 80gig HD compared to HP's 60 and 1.8 GHZ compared to 1.5. The brand doesn't matter all too much, HP might be the better choice if you don't trust more independent brands. I say you should just build a nice new 1,000 dollar desktop, you can get a nice Athlon processor for cheap. It really depends on what you're using it for. Downloading/gaming you should just build a desktop. If you just want a laptop for messing around with, watching dvds and other crap, I'd say stick with the Averatec.
