[Video. There's a ghost in a crown, and he's taken the throne that is usually in Arthas' room. He looks like he belongs in it far more than Arthas usually does.]It is as much a surprise to me as anyone that my son is still alive somewhere. The rumors of the Light's mercy are not exaggerated. I had come to assume, though, that in the Light there was ( Read more... )

Arthas? Reading through my journal entries, it seems that my son has taken a bit of a liking to yours.

That is unfortunate.

Yes, there are some aspects of their relationship that I find a little concerning.

I'm a warden, and, uh, I know Arthas.

He isn't under the influence of Frostmourne here. Not any more, and he has his soul back.

But his actions cannot be erased.

No, but that's not what you were talking about in your post. You said you didn't want anymore innocents to be cursed by his hand, and for no one else to be harmed for him.

If that's really what you wanted then the Barge has done that. It's better than him just dying and disappearing into nothing, because it means he can still do something good with his existence.

You make a good point. Mercy would likely be wasted in this case, however. There is a point at which an evil must be brought to an end and be given no more chances to destroy.

The... whatever he is, is correct about justice needing to be tempered by mercy.

He did make an agreement with me not to kill for a period of time. One that I plan to see through. And perhaps if I am successful, he'll have far less reason to kill than he did before.

I would not rely on him to hold to that. He has betrayed things far more sacred without any regret.

I believe the benefit of contract outweighs the ease of breaking it, in this case. But if your son could be saved, wouldn't you rather he be given his life as it could be? Not shackled with the errors of his past and the weaknesses of character that brought about those mistakes?

As a father, I would. As a king, though, the crimes he has committed against our world, against the innocent people he had taken a vow to protect, cannot be forgiven. Mercy is admirable, but I am not bound to it as I must be and will always be to justice.

What story might that be? If you tell me everything that happened, I might be able to help.

[Narvin is fishing for information. The more he knows about Arthas, the more chance he has of finding hitherto unnoticed weak spots.]

They are between my son's soul and the Light. It must be allowed to judge him now.
