Most people, when asked, will not refer to butterflies as ‘bugs’. That’s what they are, though, right? Bug is just another word for insect, but its usage has negative connotations. Like, people call roaches bugs, but butterflies are insects. Roaches nest in people’s homes. Butterflies don’t. They don’t bite or claw, for lack of necessary parts. They don’t attack other creatures, they defend. They don’t even destroy the flowers they eat from. They’re non-toxic unless eaten, they appear in so many colors, and they’re very fragile. Beautiful, fragile creatures fluttering in the air. Why do they make me so uneasy?
