You might be interested to note that, thanks to the wonders of Crossover Geekery there's an emerging trend among sci-fi/fantasy 'cons to include anime-related stuff; some will even have a dedicated anime stream.

And, of course, even if the programming isn't to your taste, there's always lots of friendly people to chat to (which, IMO, is the most important thing)
