Ponderings on Hypocrisy

If one believes that what we do in this life is utterly meaningless to all but themselves, is it hypocritical to then wish for a greater meaning than what we set for ourselves? Really, I want to know what you all think.

To believe in one thing, yet wish for something more, is not necessarily hypocritical. What is wanted is not necessarily what is or can be, but we can desire it anyway. Even if you believe that nothing you do will impact someone else's life, you can still desire to have that impact on them, to have your actions possess more meaning than what they hold for you. In fact, that i's a good way to be, I think. To work in the hope of helping people and impacting their lives in positive ways; but to expect, in the end, that it might not happen. This keeps hope alive, but avoids vanity. The key is not to set our sights on only doing what is meaningful to ourselves, but to actively try to live in a way that is meaningful to others as well. And I think you'd be surprised how meaningful your life can be to others, even if you can't see the impact you're making.

But what I fear is needed is that impact on the world, not the singular person. How can we hope to continue as a race if we can't be made aware of our own faults? How can I keep fighting for a better world, when the world doesn't care; and even moreso, when I believe it doesn't care?
